Need Help With Lost Team Password

Postby GeneralRavel » Wed Jul 21, 2010 10:06 pm

When I go to this page (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/changeteamreset.pl) and try to retrieve my team password it says:

can't execute passwd check We find more than one entry with team name 'General Ravelle's Crew' in the database to update. This is not good!

Ok....so what can we do to make it good and get my team password sent to me?

Team 50473 (General Ravelle's Crew)

There are a few threads on this and similar password threads already, try reading the thread linked below and see how you get on.

Searched the thread you linked and sent a PM to dlucent, however I noticed that he has not logged into the forums since May 5. It does not appear that there will be a timely solution going down that avenue.

This doesn't seem to be a "typical lost password" problem since Stanford's DB seems to have a problem with my team name.

I do need help with this problem.

I've been checking on this problem but have nothing to report yet. I agree that dlucent probably won't be helping with this problem.

Could you try this again. I think we've got this working now.

Thanks for responding, Professor Pande and Bruce :)

It seems that I no longer get the error message......
However I still can not administer my team info :(
If an e-mail with the info could be sent to the original registered address that would help greatly.
I am not sure which address I used to register, but I'm sure it was one of three I still have access to.
Thanks in advance for the help

I thought the lost password screen is supposed to send the email you're looking for. Now that it's fixed, have you checked to be sure if it is working? What actually happens now?

The web form seems to work correctly now....but my answers do not.
I am afraid whatever problems were there yesterday, this is now a problem of operator error.

It seems I don't know the Founder Name that I used when I started the team
I have tried the two possibles from my team roster and neither one seems to work.

I started this team years ago, and only now have wanted to administer things.

As a side note.....I wanted to thank dlucent for responding to my post via PM.

Awaiting any further possible assistance

I have some basic questions on how this page (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/changeteam.pl) works....

Are the answers Case-Sensitive? None of my answers seem to work.

And will any ONE wrong answer cause ALL these messages to come up together?

Sorry - the founder username does not match our records

Sorry - the password does not match our records

If you need a new password scroll down and press the 'Lost Password' button

Otherwise Try Again

Sorry - the email address does not match our records

I AM using the correct password (It was reset and PM'ed to me.)
And I can't believe that I have not entered the correct e-mail address since I have only used 3 for like the last ten years and have tried them all on the web page.

The one answer I am not sure of at all is the founder name since I have tried the two possible founder names from our list of active users (Ripper and TheRipper)

Awaiting any reply.....

Passwords are always case sensitive. I'm not sure about the founder's name. Email addresses should not be case sensitive, but since the server runs Linux, the programmer might have missed that part of his code so it might be.

@ codysluder,

Agreed wholeheartedly, passwords should always be case sensitive

Unfortunately, on that page, the required answers for Team Founder, and Founder Email are case sensitive as well, as I have found out. If that isn't changed, I would recommend new users to use all lower case for those fields, to avoid problems in their futures (When they can't remember how they tried to "pretty up" their answers with case-changes, like a certain user did this week

Another thing I noticed is that when changing the team password, the user is asked to enter the old one twice and the new one ONLY ONCE, and that behind asterisks! A mistype there would be unnoticed and ACCEPTED. The user wouldn't realize until it was too late. It should be changed to "Enter the old password once, and the NEW one TWICE"

On a positive note, each error message is triggered individually. So one wrong answer will not have all three error messages come up (and you can figure out where the problem is)

Thanks for your input codysluder, I do appreciate the team spirit here.... :)
I would consider this thread RESOLVED!
