servers 171.64.65.53 and 171.64.65.54 down

Post by kasson »

These servers are down due to a RAID problem. Our support staff is working on the issue.

Any update on this? I guess this means the SMP2 servers will not be handing out work today?

I checked the Server Stats page and this is what I found:

Code: Select all

171.64.65.53	-	vspg9a
171.64.65.54	classic	vspg9b
171.64.65.63	SMP	vspg1v
First server is for an unknown Client.
Second is for Classic.
Third is for SMP but it shows only 1 WU available.

I noticed that there are a lot of Classic Servers but only one SMP. Maybe I am not aware of the terminologies used so could somebody explain them in layman's terms.
Thanks

Does this explain why I uploaded an smp 2 work unit at 5:28 Eastern time but that it didn't register on the folding @ home stats yet?

No back up servers? You would think with the importance of getting the results back as fast as possible there would be some redundant...

Thats good RR, you can take over for me. I'm retired, and have been preaching that for years.
But alas, it has not done any good.

Unfortunately I have three PC Folding machines that are down now, with the other two
that I have doing the A3 WU's going to go down in a matter of a couple hours also...this
is not KUHL at all! WOW, to think that all of us are being served by a couple of servers
both of which are out of commission right now, no posts to the contrary to make it seem
like things are getting repaired or fixed, so I dunno...it's discouraging, very much so. :( :(

Maybe Dr. Kasson could use some good old fashioned Prayer and Praying so that these
machines will be able to distribute new A3 WU's soon, I don't know quite what else to do
about it frankly! :?: :!:

Good Luck, Dr. Kasson and company, and please, please get these assignment servers up
soon because you have a lot of folks depending on them being in a working state.

Thanks for small favors when they are working right, I guess! 8-)

You can always switch over to the standard client whilst waiting for the SMP clients to awaken, your choice.

There are no guarantees in life that anything is 100% perfect, I guess they are doing what they can with the resources they have.
As has been said many times before the team works with very small proteins, they are not IT people.

Have a good day all,

If it wasnt so much trouble to switch everything around then switch it back I would, its easier for me to leave it off man. I wonder what they done with all them old servers, heck they should be good for a back up...

Bold statement... What exactly are those folks depending on? Is not getting a life instead of babysitting fah client over weekend a better option? ;)
sorry for trolling..

I just have plenty of shortcuts on my desktop Folding 1, Folding 2, Folding 3, Folding 4. as well as SMP2, GPU1, GPU2 (for my GTX 295) etc... as well as Folding 1 config, Folding 2 config etc
It does not take too long to setup but I agree you do have to keep an eye on whats folding & what is not.
I have started using HFM.NET does a good job of keeping me informed what is working & what is not.

Maybe you think that is overkill but it keeps most of my machines busy.
Do I get pissed off when servers are down? A bit but there is not a lot that you can do about it.
Its worse when I am holiday, or sleeping or at work coz then I can't touch the machines but hey there is more to life than worrying too much about it.

All of the smp 2 core_a3 that I completed since June 11ths 5:30PM Eastern time have been uploaded, but do not get recorded on the folding @ home stat page. Also, I can get anymore smp work units.

The 2nd problem I don't care much, but the uploaded unregistered smp work unit, seem like a problem we had toward the end of last year. Last year I accepted the fact that I was recredited only 30% of the work units processed, while others were recredited much more than they had done. This time, if I don't get proper credit I will just quit folding and move on to another distributed project. No sence paying for electricity when not being sure that the work done served something.

This may be a slightly dangerous thing to suggest for your work productivity, but have you tried a remote desktop program like LogMeIn? I mainly find it helpful for monitoring my clients back home (I'm in college, far from my house), though I do sometimes check them when I should be doing other things that I'm being paid to do.

Come on! Have you ever read the front page/ of fah? Plenty of publications based on results. As the starting point would serve http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Science

Our desktops at work are locked down in XP SP2 tighter than a fishes a*******
not to mention all our web use @ work is strictly monitored & we have a very small quota. If anyone in our organisation is Top 10 for usage there is a warning email & a talking too!
Crazy as someone has to be Top 10!!!

I wish I could RD in..
