Questions and comments regarding the GPU2 client running on a nVidia GPU that supports CUDA.

got a BSOD, but I think it's my fault... [NEED CUDA Drivers]

Postby jake_italy » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:06 pm

I got a BSOD while running the GPU2 win client for nvidia.
System is a C2D 3.4Ghz on a asus p5k w/ 2GB of RAM and an 8800GT w/ driver ver 175.16
Win XP Professional SP2
I previously run the client for at least 4 hours and I'm running it now withouth any issue.
Anyway... What I think caused the crash is I used the nvidia control panel to switch display( I have two display with different resolution attached to the card)
when I clicked on apply in the nvidia Control panel I got the BSOD.
on reboot I was sent to the page
Error message in Windows XP: "STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER"
Let me say I think the BSOD is my fault for trying to do a peculiar operation with the video card while the client was using it, but I think you should be noticed.

If there's anything more I can do to help solve the issue(is there a memory dump somewhere in my pc?)let me know

Jake

(P.S: I have a BSOD screenshot if you need it but I ca'nt post it because I'm a new user)

Hello jake_italy, welcome to the forum.

I suggest you read the NV client FAQ carefully. Only CUDA capable drivers will work. (174.xx) 175.xx drivers will not work.

Got it! sorry  I Incorrectly supposed that newer version of the driver(175>174) were automatically cuda capable...

I have received a number of blue screens when trying to do basic things in the background(load firefox or Photoshop CS3).

It appears as if the NV4_DISP blue screens when the CPU is bogged down doing other things.

I have a 8800GTX, Q6600 Quad Core, 4GB of memory, XP 32bit SP2 1.77.35 (all stock).

I think I will wait for official drivers from NVIDIA and a non BETA client from Stanford.

Hello

I'm using 175 drivers, everything works if the program runs in the taskbar.
One of my two cpu cores stays at 100% usage.

If I try to open up the graphical visualization the system often hangs and/or got bsod.
Opening nvidia control panel causes the same issue.

Now I'll try 174

I'll be reporting soon.
Ciao

PS: my system
Core 2 duo E6420
Asus p5k
2gb ddr2 ram
nVidia 8600gts 256mb
win xp pro sp3

Ciao

Same issues with 174.74 drivers.

Cannot see the protein in F@H visualizer and after few seconds I got a bsod.

The viewer is known to be buggy in this early beta version. If the viewer isn't working for your GPU, don't use it until a newer version is released in a week or two.

I got the BSOD without the viewer being active.

I only get BSOD when using Multi GPU setup.
Is there an answer yet?

Depends on what the questions is. If you followed the directions in the FAQ, it should work.

And since you already started a new thread on this same topic, you shouldn't have double posted the same question in this thread. It's against forum policy to double post. Thanks.
