New ATI core 1.17

Postby Singulus » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:49 pm

I deleted the old core to get the 1.14 core, but surprisingly I got version 1.17.

Version 1.17 (Wed Oct 8 15:04:33 PDT 2008)
Compiler : Microsoft (R) 32-bit C/C++ Optimizing Compiler Version 14.00.50727.762 for 80x86
Build host: amoeba
Board Type: AMD

Any news if it's possible to run both GPUs of a HD4870 X2? What are the changes?

Regards,
Dia

If you are on XP, you should be able to run both cores of a 4870X2. We are still battling with consistency on Vista. Note that client detection will fail, but you can follow some of the guides posted by others for 3870X2/4870X2 mult-gpu, which forces detection.

I've gotten several EUE's since the 1.17 release. (8 last night)
My 4870 is not oc'd, though my E6700 is (3.2ghz) Running Vista home Premium 32bit.

( Project 4743 (R6, C493, G7) still has the potential to get me 3586ppd though :)

I`m on Vista x64, so I guess I will have no luck. Do I have to set Cat A.I. to disabled in order to fold with both GPUs? What about updates CAL-DLLs, any news, when they will be released?

Thanks,

I have not been able to complete any WU's using core 1.17, I don't know if it was the same with 1.14, but I have gone back to using 1.10 as it is the only core that allows my computations to complete.

I have 2 x 3870 (@850, 1200)
Phenom 9850 (@2.5Ghz)
Vista x64 Ultimate
8GB RAM 800Mhz DDR2

I don't know why, but I cannot process WU's with the new core versions, I have tried deleting everything except the configuration file, I may try that later, but it is constant EUE's for me with this new core.

Same issue with me... 1.17 is a no go (I posted results in the 1.14 thread).

I am now getting over 8500PPD`s on my X2

settings used:

first gpu: -gpu 0
second gpu: -forcegpu ati_r700 -gpu 1

i have monitor cables conected on both video outputs and enabled (not shure if this is required but i did it anyway)

It seems that the 1.17 Core works on my system if I set compatibility mode on the .exe to Windows XP SP2, then it works, but if I just leave it with the standard settings after download then all I get is instant EUE's.

Is there any chance one of the Moderators and put this to the development team, I am sure that it will help with with resolving the issues with this new core and EUE's?

We haven't tracked down all the Vista issues just yet. There is another thread on this somewhere. Basically, you can set the program as "run as admin", or it seems you can move the directory out from inside c:\Program Files and things work better. We don't yet have a full explanation for this.

Thanks for the reply mhouston, most appreciated. I guess that I will just have to do this or if the EUE's start up again just go back to version 1.10 until you guys are able to fully understand and resolve the issues. Thanks.

Are you setting the compability mode for the main fah.exe or the cores as well?
Also, please let us know if this continues to work for you or you get any more EUEs..

Only for the version 1.17 Farcore_11.exe do I need to set Compatibility mode, all other executables seem to work OK with no problems, it was just when I downloaded the new Farcore_11.exe onto one of my ATI GPU clients that this problem occurred, I still have the other running version 1.10 of the Farcore_11.exe of which I don't need to set compatibility mode it just works as is. I will download the new version of the Farcore_11.exe on the other GPU client once it has completed it's current WU, so that I can use them both with the most current core version, I will keep a copy of version 1.10 though in case 1.17 starts to play up again and I will be sure to add any data into this thread if that happens.

Please let me know if I can supply any additional information for you to help with this problem, I would be more then happy to.

Jumping Jesus.

Wow. Running in compatibility mode has allowed me to not EUE instantly with the new WU. I'm running in Vista 64 with a 4870 blah blah catalyst 8.9s blah. I also recently got the new 1.17 core.

[04:18:31] Project: 4744 (Run 0, Clone 324, Gen 11)
[04:18:31]
[04:18:31] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[04:18:31] Entering M.D.
[04:18:37] Working on p4744_lam5w_300K
[04:18:38] Client config found, loading data.
[04:18:38] Starting GUI Server
[04:20:50] Completed 1%
[04:22:57] Completed 2%

Two glorious percent. I'll check back in the morning to see if running in XP SP2 compatibility mode fixed my EUE problem. At this early stage in the game it looks like it might have.
