Isn't that a driver issue not a client issue? If the driver wrongly reports openCL capabilities, FAHClient can not fix that can it?

This is a FAHClient issue - I've removed all traces of OpenCL from that system and no other utility (for example GPU-Z) will find it as being supported. Only FAHClient assumes that it is there and will start the WU dumping.

I don't think V7 has ever detected OpenCL. FAHClient builds a GPU slot if you have a HD5000 or greater and the Assignment Server assumes that you've installed drivers that support OpenCL.

Doesn't it only detect CUDA?

If true then why not? Is it a bug or a feature?
How to proceed?

Adding openCL detection would also help with the slot configuration in rare cases ( like the sr2 with nf200 causing the detection to follow a different order then the openCL device ordinal's indicate ). It would be a win win. If no openCL is detected, no core_16, and using the device indexes from openCL to help with the configuration.

I have a similar problem with Windows Server 2003 and my ATI 6970 video card that I have NEVER been able to use for Folding.
I have downloaded the 11-12_xp64 driver exe from AMD's web site, uninstalled my previous ATI drivers using Device Manager, run Driver Sweeper 3.2, and run the 11-12 install scripts (the Setup, ATISetup, and/or InstallManagerApp exe files in Bin64 plus all the Apps in the Packages folder).
The only install script which appears to fail is ccc-mom-installproxy.msi. All of the other .msi files appeared to execute properly and Device Manager reports that my display driver is working properly with no errors. FAHControl V7.1.43 loads when I start up this PC, properly identifies my video card, and downloads FAHCore_16 assignments which INSTANTLY fail over and over again. If I change the config.xml file to <gpu v='false'/> and double click the FAHClient.exe file, a black background window opens and the V7.1.43 CPU client runs properly. Is there any chance that V7.1.48 will help me solve my GPU folding issues?

I'm getting several GtkWarning messages on Snow Leopar. Do you want us to report this and if so should we do it in a new thread? Client still works and seems to be fine beyond the random freeze.

Is hardware acceleration turned on in display properties for your graphics card? I seem to recall it's turned off by default in Windows Server.

I'm not sure when it happened ( don't read all the change logs ) but I have a big gripe with this:

In this the past, if my network went down, the clients would continue querying the servers trying to upload completed assignments and requesting new one's. This morning, I came down and was told my daughter somehow turned of my router. My whole network was down. I restored my network configuration, and assumed that's all what was needed. Couple of minutes later I check if my local client was getting new assignments already, and found all slots on pause. I checked the other pc, and this also had all slots on pause.

Needless to say I would like to have my slots to stay on ready so that when the network comes up they just continue on their own without manual intervention.

( disclaimer: my daughter does not have the capacity at her age to pause all my slots, but maybe someone else did. I first told the better half here that I didn't like the slots to be paused for any reason, on a rather angry tone. She has at times paused a gpu slot because she didn't like the lag playing her flash games.... so it was a semi valid thought, but you wouldn't believe the avalanche of denials I got over me )

For a while with this client I was getting 50~55k PPD (core i5 2500k @ 4.7 GHz + GTX 560) but now I've had 30k or less PPD for many days. The source of this variation is definitely the SMP slot, since the GPU one is still steady at 15k PPD. I also noticed the cores are running cooler than they used to (65-70 C now while they ran at 80-85 C before, and drawing less power (80 W vs. 95 W before). However when I run prime95 in large FFTs mode (max power consumption and heat) they once again start drawing 95 W and temps around 80 C like they used to do before with FAH. To me this indicates it isn't a problem with the processor, but rather it appears that FAH is not using the full capacity of the cores anymore despite still stressing them all at 100%. To confirm the processor wasn't the issue I restored settings to the BIOS defaults, clocked it at 4.5 GHz instead and only changed the voltage, and I'm still getting 30k PPD.

The PPD dropped at around the same time I installed Advanced Systemcare and ran Windows optimizations and registry cleaning with it, but I already reverted the Windows optimizations (the program itself has this option) and uninstalled it, but to no avail. I remain unsure if this program has anything to do with the problem or it's just a coincidence. My next attempt will be to completely uninstall the FAH client and install it back again.

Edit: As of late I've been getting 76xx, 80xx and 100xx projects, as my client type is set to "advanced".
