Beta SMP valid until ? [Feb 08]

Postby Mactin » Thu Dec 06, 2007 3:55 pm

Hello,

I'm leaving on vacation till late January and will be leaving my Q6600 ON for folding during that time.

My question : When will the v5.91 Beta SMP client expire ?
I dont mind leaving the computer ON all that time because here in Québec I still need to heat my condo while I'm away. In case of a power failure, my UPS will keep things up and running.

BTW the same info about the v6 Beta Windows Console would be nice.

Thanks
Mactin

Current beta clients expire at the beginning of February, so you should be ok.

Note that the client only expires if you stop and restart it after the date. If it doesn't fail, or if you don't reboot, it will run indefinitely until you restart it.

Yes, the client does expire. But like you said, the expiration does not cause the client to stop running, only stops it from restarting. And support for v6 clients will eventually end, as has support for v3 clients and before. So it won't run indefinetly, just several years. ;)

Yeah, but does it not restart between WUs ?
Unless it's the core that restarts and the client keep chuging along ?

The core restarts, but the core (fahcoreXX.exe) and the clients (fah.exe) are differents ;)

So if the client is not stopped, it will run "indefinitely" :)

And the fahcorexx.exe do not expire. They're updated from time to time automatically as the science code is improved, but that is totally unrelated to whether the client (fah.exe) is beta or not. At some point, the beta clients will "go gold" and be replaced with a client that has no expiration date and you'll probably continue to use some of the same fahcoreXX.exe's that you're using now.

To: toTOW, I know that English is not you first language, so I"M just helping out with the Engligh language. The word "no" means not to do. The word "Know" means "To perceive or apprehend clearly and certainly; to understand; to have full information of; as, to know one's duty. "

I tried to send you a private message about this , but the link to you is not working on my end.
