I'm still running the old A1 core (v1.74) - is that a problem?

We haven't updated A1--this is just an update to A2. They are used by a different set of projects. A2 gives us a number of benefits, both scaling-wise and science-wise. As the new core settles in, we'll be offering more A2 projects and fewer A1. But that's the medium-term plan.

It won't hurt to try, but it's still mostly luck.

I'm not sure what you're replying to, but the whole point is to upgrade from 1.91 to 2.0x

So how do you get the new a2 core. I used the -oneunit on my linux box and finished the a1 work unit. Shut down the client and made a new folder with the new download. When I started the new client I got P2665 with the a1 core ver. 1.74.

It seems to be running slower. Will the server send out the new a2 or have I config, something wrong.

If you read the previous posts you'll see its the answers uncle_fungus and Kasson gave to my question at the end of page 2. I know i should have used the Quotes system of entry.

No you did it right. But now, to get or not to get A2 WU is a matter of luck ...

kasson wrote:If it downloaded last night, check the version number. It might have erroneously been an old version (there was a problem that we fixed this morning). The version for Linux should be 2.00. If you have an old version, delete the core (Core_a2.exe) and try again.

Stopped the client and delete the core 1.91, then started up the client and it downloaded version 2.0. Unfortunatly it hung try to read the checkpoint so i stopped the client again and deleted the 'work' folder the unitinfo.txt and the queue.dat and started the client again. Of course it downloaded a new WU but it turned out to be for core 1a  so that is happily working away and its able to be stopped and started in the normal way. I am sure i'll get another core 2a one day so i'll see if it works then.

I added this information to Kasson's first post. So far it looks like everybody who updated mid-WU has lost it.

My quad finally got one. Scales pretty nice.

Code: Select all
Min. Time / Frame : 10mn 11s  - 2715,02 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 10mn 31s  - 2628,97 ppd
Cur. Time / Frame : 10mn 12s  - 2710,59 ppd

on 2 cores.

I think you might need to run it on 4 cores to get a good idea of the scaling improvement.

Oh yes. And by the way, the improvement is astonishing!

A complete 2662 took 745 minutes of real time with 2907 minutes of CPU time [on a quad here].
Easy calculation gives you 97%+ load. Now we *are* talking :-)

Cheers,
