Re: Completely lost: Screensaver?

I fold on a Mac desktop (dual quad Mac Pro early 2008 model) and concur with all of the suggestions here. When folding on all 8 cores and also doing other heavy duty processing in other applications, the computer can get a bit laggy. Setting SMP to 6 helps a lot. The last thing I recommend is checki...

Folding with DNA, too!

Researchers at MIT are looking at the folding of engineered DNA to make it fold into functional shapes http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2011/dna- ... -0427.html Some of the wet biochemistry behind these structures, and on DNA structure self-assembly, is also underway at Cornell: http://luolabs.bee.corn...

Re: 171.64.65.56 ???

.56 is experiencing delays again, having hit 200 connections 10 hours ago. Now the net load is over 250 - apparently the saturation point has been raised over at Stanford. Good idea! My machines are still waiting between WU on this machine, but the wait duration is on the order of 15 minutes rather ...

Re: 171.64.65.56 ???

Netload's back at 200. Every time Dr. K. bumps it, it heads right back to 200 connections and trouble. Good to hear about the upcoming equipment upgrade.

Re: p2685 (R5,C4,G10)

A shortcut, which may or may not work, but if it works will work immediately: - Shut down any other applications which use network bandwidth heavily, e.g. streamed audio/video, software updates, bit-torrent, photo uploading, browser running online games. - Stop Folding. - Restart Folding with the &q...

Thanks, Punchy - Perfect advice.

BTW, the unit is still not up in the database, so there's clearly a problem somewhere.

Re: Biologic fashion Design

Good heavens, it's "Kombucha mushroom", the cellulose-rich biofilm that forms on the top of fermenting Kombucha. Since it's dimensionally stable on top of the tea it should keep its shape when wetted, though this one seems thin enough to require hand washing. One would probably have to wea...

You're the second person to try this WU; the first donor didn't get any points. But his machine trashes 670x-class WU's regularly, so I wouldn't take his failure too seriously.

Re: Project: 2684 (Run 9, Clone 13, Gen 6)

Died at 75% - Ouch! So far no one has returned any results for this WU, which is not surprising, because previous generations have been taking around 3.5 - 4 days to run. You appear to be the first one to whom it was issued. I see it started again on your machine - did you let it continue? If you ha...

All's well that ends well - all of us who lost points in the recent server outage and the 6/19-6/20 one have reason for a grin and a thumbs up to the recrediting staff at the PG.

Now locking this thread.

JUST GUESSING HERE - but the recrediting may have covered some missing points from a server outage around June 19-20. Further speculation is pointless so I'm going to invoke my special mod powers to claim the last word on the subject and lock the thread.

Re: Project: 6701 (Run 19, Clone 24, Gen 28) - No Credit

For several hours spanning parts of 7/20 and 7/21 there was an internal communication error between the vspg4* server family and the stats server (possibly assignment server too). Work units were received and acknowledged, but not reported to the stats server, so credit has not yet been issued for a...
