Re: Issue on WS 128.143.199.97

The message about a "short response" has sometimes been associated with improperly configured firewalls or proxies. Has one of those changed during one of the updates? Anti-malware that blocks some ports unless they are explicitly allowed for the F@H client can also cause issues. Thanks f...

Issue on WS 128.143.199.97

I've had F@H running on a seldom used machine at work for some time now. At some point in the last few weeks/months it has stopped processing WU's. I don't know exactly when this occurred, it may have been during a windows update - I simply don't know. I have tried all the usual processes, the Windo...

Re: Can't connect

UPDATE: So, the good news is that I have a work unit running. The bad news is that I have no idea why. Here is the latest log 21:10:00:Saving configuration to config.xml 21:10:00:<config> 21:10:00: <!-- Network --> 21:10:00: <proxy v=':8080'/> 21:10:00: 21:10:00: <!-- User Information --> 21:10:00:...

Re: Unable to get assigned a new work order

Changes to the system... There was a bunch of Win7 updates around 3 days before the problem surfaced, but I did pick up work units after those were installed. NOD32 updates the virus definitions a couple of times a day, but I have tried both white listing Stanford sites and also disabling NOD32 with...

Re: Mavericks

I am not amongst those who believe that MacOSX.9.n Mavericks is the best Mac OS yet. Indeed, I find it beset with irritations, of which the two most irritating are its inability to multi-task which is evidenced by everything freezing for up to ten seconds whenever switching tasks and the fact that ...

Re: Unable to get assigned a new work order

I've also been getting a similar response for several days now. I've tried excluding the Stanford addresses from my AV software with no luck. I get a white screen with "OK" from http://assign3.stanford.edu/, but no connection from http://assign4.stanford.edu/ or http://assign3.stanford.edu...

Re: Work Unit 7610 (12, 0, 224) appears very slow - Updated

Check task manager for non FAHCore_xx CPU usage. Specifically, FAHControl which can spontaneously start using a full core (the solution is to hut it down and restart it). But it does not have to be that, it could be any process that uses a significant amount of CPU usage (10%+ is plenty to cause th...

Work Unit 7610 (12, 0, 224) appears very slow

I'm running this work unit on a Win 7 i5 machine that generally produces on the order of 5000 ppd depending on the mix of WU's. A typical range would be 4500-5500. This work unit is going to take a total of over 5.5 days and generate ~1260 points or ~220 ppd. At 8% completed the TPF is 1hr 21min. Ha...

Re: Work Server 0.0.0.0

Bruce, just letting you know that all the machines appear to be receiving and returning work units again without any intervention at my end (I've been away for a few days). So, thanks for your help but I'm pretty certain whatever the issue and solution was it was at PG's end.

Re: Work Server 0.0.0.0

Thanks for the reply Bruce. I now have four machines affected. All are running v7 (7.1.52 & 7.1.48). Two are XP machines and 2 are Win7. One of these machines runs both SMP and GPU units. The GPU is still getting new units. My 5th machine (an iMac at a different location) is also still happily p...

Work Server 0.0.0.0

I completed a work unit (SMP:4) around 2.5 hours ago and have been assigned work and collection servers 0.0.0.0

It's a long time since I have had a machine sit idle. Does anyone know if there is a problem or shortage of appropriate WU's?

Re: New Front end webpage is awful!

I have to say I hated the old web page and said so the moment I joined up. It wasn't long after that that the new front page came live. I doubt my opinion swayed anyone one way or the other... I think we all have web pages we like because we are used to them and we know where to find what we want, r...

Re: Trial run of mobile optimised theme - comments

Other than the scaling of the code boxes it is a really impressive, clean and readable style. I like it.
