Re: Project 16804 (Run 14, Clone 406, Gen 12) crashing at en

Okay, just as an update. The machine has been folding for about four days now without the the Core crashing out. It definitely seems Windows Defender was causing problems. Good to know, given it's more advanced than it used to be in the past.

Just Windows Defender. I'll add an exclusion to the folder and monitor.

Re: Project 16804 (Run 14, Clone 406, Gen 12) crashing at en

I checked through the historica logs. Looks like this crashes periodically with the same exception code. I can go a few days or a week of 24/7 Folding without getting that exception. Let me exclude the FahCore_a7.exe binary and see if that helps. EDIT: Nope. This work unit just bailed out after movi...

Re: Project 16804 (Run 14, Clone 406, Gen 12) crashing at en

Just ran chkdsk to make sure, and it is not reporting any errors with the file system. The drive the work folder for this work unit is on has 82GB free (256GB SSD). Drive S.M.A.R.T checks back clean, no read errors, bad blocks, or relocated blocks. Also checked file / folder permissions, and they ar...

Project 16804 (Run 14, Clone 406, Gen 12) crashing at end.

Looks like I got a bad work unit here. This one has been crashing regularly throughout it's run and will not complete. The Folding@Home client starts work on another work unit, then picks up the problem work unit again from the incomplete queue. Here's some logs. 13:34:50:WU00:FS00:Connecting to 65....

Re: Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

That would make sense. I'm normally an NVIDIA user, and leave AMD to the laptops since I prefer their APUs. Video playback causes the GPU to enter a different performance state. Once I have more time, I'll see what tweaks are available to adjust the GPU.

Re: Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

Just a small update. I resumed folding onto the GPU. The stability issues with the drivers are a strange one. I found that if I have the GPU continuously decode video, such as from Twitch.tv or YouTube, the driver NEVER crashes even with Folding@Home completing work units. It seems the GPU can compl...

Re: Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

It appears in this case, the driver from Windows Update is more stable with Folding@Home than the one offered by HP's website. Still seeing stability issues, and I'll track them down once I have some free time. I have a feeling the crashes remain specific to certain types of workloads related to com...

Re: Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

Thank you. There is definitely some driver instability, as a Windows crash occurred about a half hour ago. The work unit itself continues to move onwards. As for the CPU slot, the folding client selected the value of 7. I'll decrease it to 6 or 4 depending on how things go with the GPU slot. I found...

Re: Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

Thank you Bruce. I am seeing some strange behavior right now with the stability of the software, after adding the GPU Slot. I had a case shortly after enabling the GPU slot where the Core_a4 CPU slot AND the GPU Core 21 slot crashed out at the same time. CPU remains stable so long as GPU isn't doing...

Add Vega 8 Mobile Graphics

Hello there,

I recently installed the Folding@Home client to a new laptop I've recently purchased, and wanted to get the integrated Vega 8 Graphics added to the GPUs.txt whitelist. Currently, CPU folding is working fine. Attached is the GPU-Z information.

Re: 0x17 Core lower PPD

Thanks for the reply! I can give the v6 GPU client a try. I used to run that back in the Vista days.

0x17 Core lower PPD

Hey all, first time posting here. I've been folding for around 6 years now, and to start off, I appreciate the fact that distributed computing projects like this exist. I've been donating power wherever I can, on newer multi-core systems I own and on capable graphics cards. Recently, one system has ...
