I did get a 1x slot to run a 750ti wit a powered 1x to 16x riser on my motherboard. As far as I can tell it didn't slow any of the other cards down. Course the 750ti isn't real demanding. By junk I mean that there are many reviews stating that their motherboards were damaged or ruined as soon as they tried to boot with the risers, aside from many other reviews that they just soon quit working. Only thing, the 1080s work fine on the other slots of this motherboard with unpowered risers. But yes, I know they pull power from the slots because the fans come on even without the power cables hooked up.

I also use cinnamon 17.3 on one of my machines. 18 on the other one. Nvidia driver 370.28 on both. Running a mixture of 5 1080s, a 960 and a 750ti. Not having any of the problems you are having. Are your systems otherwise patched up to date?
