Re: Best 4 lane Nvidia GPU?

Thanks for the link. It looks like tests were done on a 1070 at 1x which is encouraging but I see another test where they ran a 1080 at 1x, so I don't know what to think. If I got a 1070 and it didn't work on the 4x slot I don't have anywhere else to put it. Well, since I just bought a 1080 I have t...

Re: Best 4 lane Nvidia GPU?

SABERTOOTH 990FX R3.0 The slot lane specifications are in an earlier post above from the motherboard's manual. I have had as many as 5 gpus recognized at once by this motherboard. 3 1080s 1 960 (in the black slot) and one 750ti on an x1 slot. Again, the issue here is what is the most productive gpu ...

Re: Best 4 lane Nvidia GPU?

Thanks for the responses. It's under Linux Mint if that matters. Right now I have 4 GPUs folding fine, 3 1080s and 1 960. The spacing works because it's an open air "case" which is also nice as everything runs cooler. I use top quality 16X shielded risers. I don't think it's power as it's ...

Best 4 lane Nvidia GPU?

I couldn't find it in the documentation so this is partly guesses. I have a sabertooth 990FX motherboard with 4 16X pcie slots Nvidia gtx 1080 GPUs will run in three of the slots but not in the fourth. My assumption from what I've read is that the fourth slot has only 4 lanes and some GPUs won't sta...

If it turns out to be a BSOD this might work: https://3gstore.com/products/107_view_a ... wAodv6EI2w

Re: PCI-e bandwidth/capacity limitations

@boristsybin I've got a sample size of 12 Titan X pascal GPUs with about half on PCIe 3.0 x8 and the other half on PCIe 3.0 x16 interfaces. There is no discernible difference in frame time or PPD between the two interfaces. All of them are in 2011-v3 motherboards with 40 PCIe lane CPUs. If anyone w...

...KVM switch to switch your keyboard, video, and mouse between your primary PC and folding rigs. I run my rigs headless using TightVNC. Others like Team Viewer. I just move a monitor & keyboard around for those times when you just have to. FAHControl lets me see them all at a glance. Routinely...

Re: Stats not updating?

Since the stats has no direct impact on science the resources are set elsewhere. But yeah, an automatic reboot every day once the stats are pushed to the web server might be a low-cost mitigation action. While what you say is technically true, you are dealing with a large set of volunteers. These v...

Re: Use F@H as a home heating system ?

My 6 GPUs make more heat than I need in the room so use a big fan to push the air out into the rest of the house. My wife does complain about the noise though. Different matter in warm weather when it ups the AC requirements and I'll run a window unit for that room even though we have central air.

Re: Stats not updating?

I feel that there's a Murphy's program running that keeps looking for the most inopportune time for everyone to shut down the server. :D Knows when a weekend comes up and when there is a shortage of IT personnel to fix the problem quickly. :D :D What really happens is that the cleaner comes in and ...

Re: Stats not updating?

Where I work, in data processing, there is a big deal made about root cause analysis and fixing underlying problems. Painful as it may be sometimes.
