Yup,you're right. While it worked totally fine on one laptop on Mint Tessa, it totally didn't work on the other. installArchives() failed: Selecting previously unselected package libbonobo2-common. I'm guessing it certainly helps. Even $5 a month helps!
I signed up, hope it will work out for me!

Re: 1 core per GPU still holds true?

"I think it is better to have small number of fast GPUs than high number of slow GPUs." @foldy, Yes, you are right on that. I guess it depends on what your initial capital is. If I had an additional $1500, I might have gone for a used pair of TITAN Vs, or RTX 2080 Tis from the getgo. But a...

Re: FAH sees cryptocurrency as 3rd party app enhancing commu

You get rewarded in tokens based on the points you fold. These tokens can be exchanged for bitcoin which in turn can be sold for cash if you wish. Currently the payouts and exchange rates are such that it doesn't quite pay for electricity for most people, as far as I can tell if you fold with less ...

Re: FAH sees cryptocurrency as 3rd party app enhancing commu

Like I thought, you get money for mining, that essentially saps the power out of your system to do the actual folding.

Re: FAH sees cryptocurrency as 3rd party app enhancing commu

I've read in the past there were some incentives for those folding, so it would at least cover their electric bill.
Does that offer still stand?
At 300W, I could use $30 a month on electricity, not to mention all the hardware cost.

Re: Ryzen 3000 CPUs and Core_a7 (and Core_21)

I got my E5-2600 v2 for $50 (LGA 2011) and my new v4 (LGA 2011-3) for $75. Total cost of the server $500, and the second one I got for $300, saving money on a case, operating system, and graphics cards. Found 2x cheap chinese ($50) 1060s out there. I see no reason to pay that much, besides, a 1060 i...

Re: Latest Client/Control needs 18.4LTS or later (linux)?

I've looked at most (compatible) Linux versions in the time allotted to me on my netbook. And it currently comes down to, running Debian, a safer, quicker, less bloated OS, with older Geforce drivers (390), or run Ubuntu/Mint, slightly more bloated, less safe OS, for the newest 417 drivers. Not sure...

Re: 1 core per GPU still holds true?

Above, I looked at it from the perspective of running a card within 90% of efficiency, not 50%. I'm already a bit disappointed if the card drops 10-20% vs a PCIE16x slot. The drop off you're seeing on your faster card, seems to be in line with the drop off I'm seeing on my 1050, about 20%. This woul...

Re: Ryzen 3000 CPUs and Core_a7 (and Core_21)

I _thought_ I’d read here, somewhere, that there were performance issues with the AMD OpenCL implementation which caused their GPUs to underperform. This is not about right and wrong, just different approaches. Nvidia uses an infinite loop of CPU polling to keep the GPU fed, This chews up an entire...

Re: 1 core per GPU still holds true?

I'd have to note, from my observation lately, that GPU utilization recorded by taskmanager in Windows (and perhaps Linux variants as well), is not very accurate; when it comes to the compute_0 (GPU utilization). It's the closest thing we have to recording GPU activity, but, it's still immeasurably i...

Re: Optimizing cloud client settings

The more cores, the better. Though one Xeon CPU runs roughly as efficient as a GT 1030 graphics card. These cards can be gotten really cheap nowadays, and surely save you money in the long run on your electric bill alone. Each card uses 1 CPU thread, so your remaining CPU threads will be still avail...

Re: 1 core per GPU still holds true?

The only information I could get, is the Kernel times, Though all cores use 100% CPU utilization per GPU, the kernel times on my 1060 hovered around 90%, the 1050 around 85%, and the 1030 around 50%. This was at 1,89Ghz. When i combined the 1050 and 1030 to 1 core (meaning, the 1050 ran on core 2 an...

Re: egpu support

eGPUs can still be better than folding from a CPU; and they're portable. They could also add to CPU folding. That being said, according to what I read, the ExpressCard slots are between 1/2 to 1x the speed of a PCIE 1x slot. I think that's between GT 1030 and GTX 1050 territory (30-100k PPD). I real...

Re: HFM.NET - Monitoring Application for Folding@Home v6/v7

How much bandwidth does it use?
I like the idea of a monitoring app, but would prefer to only get results when triggered remotely.
I've seen some apps using hundreds of kbits of network data, to stream the client's status.
