Re: RTX Super cards.

Does anyone actually have them yet? I think they aren't out yet. Google says release date is in 2 days for the 2060 and 2070, and by the end of the month for the 2080. From what I read, the memory modules are pretty much the same. Overclocking reports 900Mhz stable memory overclocks on the super car...

Re: Need Help Configuring 2x 2080Tis

Aside from dual booting, there's always an option to install a cheap 32-64 GB SSD in your system, and boot from UEFI with F11, to your stock OS disk, or the Linux disk.

Re: Lowering CPU frequency?

Does changing avx settings in bios affect folding performance? An issue with lowering CPU frequency like I mentioned, is that the energy savings needs to be divided over all the graphics cards. For instance, if you're running a single 2060 at 1.04M PPD, and your performance drops to 1.02-1.03M PPD, ...

Re: Lowering CPU frequency?

I've done some testing on this. I think Foldy said something about 1,8Ghz in his case (if I'm not mistaken) was the lower limit on the CPU frequency, when folding on RTX GPUs. In my case, I'm running an RTX 2070 and an RTX 2060 on a dual core Celeron 2.8/3.1Ghz processor; one PCIE 3.0 8x slot, and o...

Re: GUIDE: FAH on Linux from scratch

Performance difference with the newer drivers now comes within 3-5% margin. Still slower than 418 drivers, but a lot better than the initial 6-10% slowdown. This was due to one of my GPUs losing performance over time. One of the GPUs kept occasionally sending bad WUs with the new drivers, and I had ...

Re: Multi-GPU PPD drop

Yes, pcie 2.0 4x is at the lower end for GTX 1070s on Windows. If I look at Linux, I see a 5% drop using pcie 3.0 1x slots, as well as pcie 2.0 4x slots in Linux, vs running them at 8x or 16x. While theoretically pcie 3.0 1x speeds equal pcie 2.0 2x speeds, for some reason, when folding, I get the s...

Re: Need Help Configuring 2x 2080Tis

Oh, ok. I thought this was the case. GPUz doesn't display boost frequency. The 2 most popular free overclocking programs for NVidia cards are EVGA's XOC, and MSI's afterburner. Both are for Windows. For Linux it'll be NVidia xconfig with cool-bits enabled. Once you install one of these programs you ...

Re: [help] advice needed to build FAH rig

Now combine it with a mild GPU and vram overclock. It shouldn't affect power draw by much. And you can regain at least .2 MPPD, bringing you just over 3M PPD. Also, add a few Watts to the minimum. When setting power caps to the absolute minimum, the card's performance drops much. Adding just 1 to 2 ...

Re: Need Help Configuring 2x 2080Tis

From the GPU side, it all looks good. It appears to be installed in a full size slot, at gen 3.0. The Tis can even pull 1.8mil in Linux on a pcie 3.0 1x slot (with riser). Which means they'll do the same in windows on a 2x to 4x slot. You're sending 250Watt average to the GPU, which also looks norma...

Re: GUIDE: FAH on Linux from scratch

Yup, I'm reporting a 10% performance drop on the 430.26 drivers! It's been consistent with the exact same settings, for the past 30 hours. In the beginning, I was skeptical about drivers losing performance, but for some reason, my PPD count has been 10% lower, and the only variable is the newer GPU ...

Re: Playstation 5 and XBox Scarlett

While sales of gaming consoles is on the rise worldwide, most of these are portable and budget consoles. High end devices like the ps5 will probably see less sales. And most of these devices are used less and less, than the previous generation devices . The novelty of owning a console, wears off. Pe...

Re: GUIDE: FAH on Linux from scratch

I re-installed everything straight from Lubuntu 18.10 iso, rather than go the long way of updating 18.04. The long way (update 18.04 to 18.10), especially when shifting from lightdm to sddm desktop, didn't work well, like one of the issues was that it gave a lot of duplicate icons and programs. The ...

NVidia joining with ARM, might be the breakthrough we need..

Sounds like the best of both worlds! One of a few articles mentioning NVidia and ARM joining together in the near future (2020). If NVidia cards will run on ARM PCs, and FAH will support it (coding for arm is easier than for x86/64), would be a step forward in deep learning, and supercomputing... ht...

Re: GTX 1060 undervolting despite full workload

Seems like your GPU does the work just fine. I would adjust the power curve, but not the voltage. The gtx16xx cards should run very cool, especially when on limited power and higher fan curve. If the GPU freezes, or slows down, due to undervolting, it may just be waiting for a data stream from the G...
