I'm not 100% sure, but I'm almost certain that the GPU is actually that much faster in raw speed.
The 8800GT has many, many stream processors (somewhere around the 112 mark?) and can do work much faster.

I could swear that wasn't there yesterday ;_; Any idea on credits? :) The reporting of this is VERY glitchy. THe FAHlog says p892, the total steps when you mouseover the systray keeps changing from 5,000 to 2,500 and back again, and when I click "View Fahlog" on the systray menu, it opens ...

GUI means Graphical User Interface, or that you can see something like a protein floating around.
