Hopefully this prominent opinion piece will generate more Alzheimer's research funding, with hopefully some of it finding its way to FAH!

Re: More Hopeful News on Alzheimers
Didn't the article you posted yesterday refute the amyloid link? I guess no one really knows why the Lilly drug failed, and are awaiting more information. Meanwhile, the attached seems like a more targeted and selective approach than what Lilly used, so perhaps that was the problem. I guess the goo...

More Hopeful News on Alzheimers
Blocking the gamma secretase activating protein (a targeting protein for the protease gamma secretase enzyme, which in turn seems to snip a "big protein" to produce beta amyloid), seems to block beta amyloid protein in mice. Good news! And how appropriate the research was conducted by an 8...

Eli Lilly Alzheimer's Disease Drug Failure
Alzheimer's seems as much a mystery as ever. "All along, a small band of skeptics have worried that the amyloid theory is misguided. They argue that amyloid may be a mere consequence of the disease. Blocking it may do little or nothing, or even accelerate dementia. Now their worst fears have co...

Re: Project: 6701 (Run 78, Clone 18, Gen 19)
Thanks, upon further reflection the work unit issue may be due to system crashing, perhaps due to being underpowered after adding a 2nd video card ( http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=15174 ), so I think I will withhold judgment for now until I get my other issue resolved. Thanks thoug...

Project: 6701 (Run 78, Clone 18, Gen 19)
This work unit has been giving me trouble, and each time I delete it, it keeps being downloaded to my machine.

Re: 171.67.108.31
I can read the information provided on serverstat and I can see that in the past hour it as assigned some 1300 WUs and a few WUs were uploaded to it -- so it does look like the server is doing what the server should be doing. When was the last time you restarted your client? It was working for awhi...

Re: HFM.NET - Client Monitoring Application for Folding@Home
Maybe it says elsewhere, but am I correct in assuming that leaving HFM minimized uses next to nothing in terms of resources?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Monitoring VMWare Running Ubuntu Server Edition?
I have been using Windows VMPlayer to run the 64-bit Ubuntu Server Edition, and have not been successful in figuring out how to monitor my folding. The Server Edition appears just to run on a command line basis, with no GUI/display to edit Samba. Has anyone had success with a Folding monitor in such...

Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
I had not thought of that, good idea! Much as a pie just out of the oven needs to be placed upon a pie stand, perhaps FAH could sell a raised laptop cooling stand!uncle fuzzy wrote:.... Place it where it can get more airflow. Lift it off the table an inch. Blow it out often.

Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
Remember that max allowable core temps for laptop CPUs are significantly higher -- on the order of 100C vs 70C. Thanks, that is good to know. I actually decided to upgrade because the promotional deals were so good, so I purchased an HP Pavilion dv6t Quad, which has an i7-720QM processor, so that s...

Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
As with all laptops, they need frequent cleaning and need to be on a surface that doesn't restrict airflow. As for getting too hot, that would be dependent on the model you get. I'm sure the fan will kick into overdrive if you fold on it on every core. Other than the noise, again depending on the m...

Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
I am considering purchasing a budget laptop with a P8700 dual core processor, and was wondering if it would get too hot running Gromacs on a steady basis?
Does anyone have any experience with this? (I have always used a desktop to run FAH.)
