Re: What's the most suitable GPU for this system?

I have several low profile cases. The selection of available GPUs that will fit is limited but the machine I'm currently folding on has a GT710 which is the absolute bottom of the GPU range, but it does run CUDA. (Some GT710s do and some do not and I already own the GPU.) I'd consider upgrading the ...

Re: [IBM Power] Any plans to support new IBM CPUs?

Yes, these are an updated version of the POWER architecture. It has had a number of offshoots, PowerPC chips developed by the Apple, IBM & Motorola consortium, Cell processors that were used in the PS3, and others. Some of the features from the offshoots have been merged back into the main POWE...

Re: [IBM Power] Any plans to support new IBM CPUs?

The name POWER has been around a long, long time. Is this an upgraded version of their server architecture from 20+ years ago? They have a history of selling solutions which involve proprietary hardware and proprietary software. They call anything they build a standard but get out of the market if i...

Re: Not new to folding - question about f@h Android client

Those are good questions, but you'll need to ask Sony or at https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome/

I wonder if it will run on the new Samsung hardware. (They will be using a custom CPU).

Nick
In my reading of the general sentiment around the forum, 347.52 IS the fixed driver.

The only time I ever saw a message was when the output was directed to a screen. I think the message might be issued before the messages are being captured to log.txt.

Re: What affect does the CPU have on GPU performance?

Why Nvidia and AMD is so different I do not know. But this is what I have learned trough my time of folding. I don't know either, but my guess is that Nvida is looking harder at capturing the game market. If some wasted CPU cycles produce a slightly higher frame rate, then they gain boasting rights...

Re: What affect does the CPU have on GPU performance?

I've paused 1 of the GPU's now and the CPU load has changed from 100%/100% to ~25%/~85%, with the 85% being the core feeding the active GPU. I'll keep an eye of the TPF and see if it makes any difference. What I would try next is setting affinity for the thread that's running the fahcore, leaving e...

I would run memchkCL to confirm whether you're having memory errors on your gpu or not.

Re: Estimated PPD vs "actual"

If folding.extremeoverclocking is not reliable, where should I check my PPD? I am running dual AMD 290x so 500,000 PPD is what I would expect. I can think of two possibilities. First, points are credited after the WUs are completed. If a WU runs for a week, you might get those points within your 48...

Re: Using the new F@h subreddit

+1 While reddit does allow the Pande Group to learn which comments are important to many of us, it is useless when it comes to finding which topics have an official reply or even to find new replies from others. In that regard, foldingforum.org isn't much better but it does allow us to read only tho...

Re: Delay in points for completed units

"It's not a bug; it's a feature." :D Three things have to happen. All WUs completed since the last update must be collected and added to the official database. Data from that database must be exported to the flat files. The 3rd party sites must download those flat files and process them. T...

Re: Why CPU versus GPU?

The same answer applies to "Why did Stanford bother to create a client for Chrome?" If somebody's computer doesn't have a gpu, should they be prohibited from contributing to F@H? One of my computers folds with an internal gpu. It doesn't earn a lot of points, and folding with all but one o...

Why 344.11, when 344.16 was released 5 days later?

Are you certain?

I'd be interested in who is running which version of the drivers.

There were two WHQL drivers release 5 days apart. That is unusual.
