Re: Running folding at home on thread ripper

On my AMD and Intel systems, having FAH dive into the Hyperthreading concurrency has *always* helped. There is diminishing returns... my 4 core 8 thread CPUs had some boost from 4->6, but nothing really from 6->7->8 (with 8 being slower than 6, but still faster than 4). I had a few threadripper expe...

Re: Lower PPD with several projects

Looks like the PPD across the board is far lower recently: https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... ary.php?s=

My CPU's seem to be the same, but my GPU's are 1/2 the PPD as they used to be. Initially I thought it was my system, but the workload and software must have shifted on the GPU side...

Re: Ryzen 9 3950x Benchmark Machine: What should I test for

My guess would be:
1x27 CPU slot (SMT Enabled)
would be the higher PPD, due to less thread contention with the OS and various other things running.

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

You could move to the geometric mean: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_mean This would normalize things a bit more and should reduce the impact of "over-reporting".... OR, average each users data first, then average the averages (instead of all the datapoints)... Lots of ways to pro...

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

Pretty sure the general idea for this was... to get a general idea. take the data from a spectrum of situations, and give an idea where you expect to be. Things as subtle as the brand of case fan will adjust the PPD of an air-cooled GFX card..... why worry about that point?

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

My all core-overclock is locked in. Cooling is great. power use of the chip is... high. I game and work on it, and Linux/Windows seem to be perfectly happy sharing FAH and whatever I'm doing on it too. without impact to the interactive task, and only (usually) a minor dip to the FAH PPD. I'd just pr...

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

this is my main system, and there are other tasks that run around even when idle. 30 CPU threads and a single one for each GPU meant any other tasks would be fighting all of those FAH threads for CPU time, getting in their way. The amount of contention that caused for the GPU threads means they *eac...

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

Oyi, CPU slots to 30 with the 2 GPU's caused *way* too much contention, lowered PPD and slowed the system considerably.

Back to a single 24 thread CPU slot along with the 2GPU's. That's leaving "6 threads" idle, but I have a feeling this will be better than the 30 slot core.

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

Swapped my threadripper over to a single big slot and see if that changes the aggregate PPD. Not anticipating a big difference but who knows?!?

Re: BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72)

13404 has given me 3 out of 8 "BAD_WORK_UNITS",
13405 has given me 1 out of 14 "BAD_WORK_UNITS".

I don't mind if its costing me points, but those error rates sound like it's a pretty inefficient way to get results...

Re: BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72)

I've had a bunch of BAD_WORK_UNIT results from project 13405 and 13405.

It happens on both Intel & AMD platforms, on 3 different RTX cards....

All on linux with latest NVIDIA drivers.

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

How is everyone doing the export? I'm... Assuming... I have to go to the Work Unit History, export from there? Also, I have 2x CPU slots and 2X GPU's for one computer, and 2X GPUs in another computer... what has everyone been doing to get the names in place? I don't see any easy ways to set the slot...

Re: PPD Database - HFM exports needed

I did the "sudo apt install mono-complete"

Code: Select all

sudo apt install mono-complete
if that helps.
