Re: debugging sudden low performance on RX5500
ah - my W10 box has a very old AMD GPU and so i can't draw any meaningful comparisons between windows and linux here. the drivers are definitely a problem and if this turns out to only be a linux problem i'll bet the devs don't care. given the difficulty of getting AMD GPUs running on linux there pr...

Re: debugging sudden low performance on RX5500
i was reading another thread with complaints about 13416 and it made me look at the CPU utilization of the CPU thread associated with the RX5500 GPU thread. it's higher than i've ever seen - 70% - which is something new for an AMD/ATI graphics card as far as i have seen. the machine in question happ...

Re: WU 13416 low ppd long run time
so not to pile on, but i do feel something is weird with 13416. i've got 5 GPUs across 2 machines. 13416 happens to be running on 2 GPUs on a windows 10 machine and 1 GPU on a linux machine. on the windows 10 machine, the two GPUs in question are a GTX 1060 with 8GB of memory and a RTX 2060 with 6GB...

Re: debugging sudden low performance on RX5500
i should also say that i was motivated to fix this because i can only run overnight (~8 hours) due to high electricity prices during the day. the 13416 project on the AMD GPU has a runtime of almost 48 hours. the project will time out days before i can complete it like this. so although i don't have...

Re: debugging sudden low performance on RX5500
ok - thanks. i did wonder about the project itself but since i happened to find the same one running on nvidia "normally" it gave me pause. i guess it didn't help that this GPU kept pulling the same project over and over again as i was debugging.

debugging sudden low performance on RX5500
greetings all, i had been happily chugging along on an ubuntu 18.04 system with a GTX1060 and also an RX5500 for a while, when i suffered some kind of disk corruption and the machine stopped booting. when i investigated, the kernel was crashing while loading the AMD kernel modules. so, i removed the...

Re: sorting out OpenCL platforms on linux
thanks - yeah it all seems to be working even though i had to set the slots manually. the trick of adding "fahuser" to the "video" group seems to have worked for me rather than having to start as root. but i did need the alternate daemon startup script that allows fahclient to pr...

Re: sorting out OpenCL platforms on linux
well... so maybe i should just remove the mesa-opencl-icd package then? i shut down the machine mid-WU due to peak electricity time so i don't yet know if the RX5500 can produce a proper result... later tonight i'll know.

sorting out OpenCL platforms on linux
hi all - i managed to add an RX5500 to my ubuntu 18.04 linux box (which had previously only had an nvidia GTX 1060) with the help of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=81&t=33353 in the course of things i have ended up with 3 OpenCL platforms. 0 seems to be Clover/Mesa due to having installed mesa-ope...

Re: HOWTO: How I got my R9 290 folding on Linux
i guess it should be noted that adding the 'fahclient' user to the group 'video' is necessary for the client to find OpenCL devices. i think OP alluded to this as a prior solution and is maybe well-known, but up until today i was running a linux box with only an nvidia GPU (which uses cuda i guess) ...

Re: Update_Core status on a work unit.
well, it was enough to pause the slow GPU. for some reason i then got an error in one of the slot logs saying the core binary could not be overwritten but maybe that's because another slot was writing it. the two slots waiting on UPDATE_CORE then immediately started up on 0.0.5. the slow GPU checkpo...

Re: Update_Core status on a work unit.
i have a machine with 3 GPUS, one fast, one middling and one slow. the two faster GPUs are showing state "UPDATE_CORE" in fahclient. they are not requesting work units. the slower GPU is still working on a WU which will take 2 more days to complete. i think this means that the client is wa...

Re: Failing to SEND completed work unit
that particular server (140.163.4.231) seems to have some problem for a couple of days now. i think there was another thread where Joe_H or another moderator said they were aware of the problem. i've still got one WU that won't upload to that server - it gets to about 1% (very, very slowly) and then...

Re: keyboard/mouse unresponse periodically
i think i have run into this on ubuntu 18.04 LTS with a GT640 video card (only one in the system.) basically everything is fine at the console. for whatever reason, despite setting require-encryption to false, i can't get OSX's VNC client to connect to vino. so i decided to try x11vnc; it "work...
