Re: Project 12103 taking too long

Giving the most information you can is more productive. Answers to uestions such as the below might be helpful to the people making the assignments. Are you folding 24/7? If not, how many hours per day do you fold? Are your gpus or any other part of your computer running power limited or in any sens...

Re: Switch preference to Parkinsons for highest PPD

I haven't really paid much attention to it lately. At times certain preferences might help, but that also depends on the level of hardware you are running. I have in the past used preferences to avoid certain work units that my older gear wouldn't finish on time. Now that I have a newer GPU I really...

Re: Fahcore_23 v8.0.3 project:17116 run:5 clone:470 gen:0 core:0x23 Hangs at 100%

I've had one of them run without any issue. No delays or anything strange in the logs (other than the single checkpoint) that I could see.

Re: Bigger tasks?

I'm not quite sure how the people involved determine the details of folding time expected, but in some cases the variety of hardware makes it hard regardless. As for cards that used to time out not doing so lately, I think @musiqaz and possibly others were involved in breaking down the species categ...

Re: Bigger tasks?

That is a function of how they are assigned, and where your card(s) lie within a species assignment, along with whatever factors in how broad a brush they assign them to for them to complete in the desired time. If your GPU's are on the lower end of the assignment, they might not have much extra tim...

Re: 4070 vs 4070 Ti for multi-GPU Folding Rig

Choices, choices.... Size, price, power consumption, throughput, etc all play a role, so sometimes the choices aren't easy. As far as efficiency goes, 1 GPU takes less resources to run than 2, but if you already have case space, the right power supply, or multiple rigs it gets more complicated. For ...

Re: Log rotated, but the log does not continue or a new one opens

Same problem, old log file ends on 23:59Z, new log file is never created. Had to pause and restart the client each morning. Reverted to V7 client for now... Strangely enough, it did rolate succesfully for the first couple of days... Maybe I just got lucky since I only ran the Beta for a couple of d...

Re: PCIE 2.0 and CPU/GPU questions

The problem with testing on various hardware is that unless you get the exact work unit assignments, your testing will be skewed by the luck of the assignment servers. Even if it's the same project, some variation takes place. Though usually small, in some cases the specifics of the work units creat...

Re: Log rotated, but the log does not continue or a new one opens

On my Windows 10 install, the log rotated at the start of the day, and the previous day was kept in the logs. I only ran the beta a couple of days, but the logs were fine, broken down to days.

I don't know if I'm really opposed to it rotating daily as long as it keeps the logs from previous days.

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

Without knowing the details of the assignment methods, all of this is just a guess, BUT..... What is priority in research today might change tomorrow. Look how quickly COVID changed the landscape of folding. And as those research priorities change, so might the types of project constraints that are ...

Re: Ars Technica: Is distributed computing dying, or just fading into the background?

I see it much the same as any other charitable donation. It might help the end cause. And it is the same if you give someone down on their luck a bit of work, a few bucks, etc. Long term we might never know if it mattered. Many other charities are the same.... what did it really help or did it even ...

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

It would be nice if the "Failed to assign" condition was detected and the assignment server round robin'ed among the other servers. I just got one from .4.210 which isn't even supposed to have work units based on the server status page. It would be nice if the "Failed to assign"...

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

Sandy, The upload slowdowns can cost some points, especially with faster GPUs like you are running. AFAIK this is the first reporting in recent times of this issue on this particular server. I do know that toTOW has been inquiring about assignments and returns for the faster cards. As for this serve...

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

Sandy, I think toTOW is already watching this situation regarding both assignments and returns lately, as he has asked on the Discord channel. I noticed lately it has been more the server you list, though others have done it as well for me. If the behavior you are seeing is anything like what I'm ge...

Re: Stats server down

Both work for me, and not much slowdown today. As for how long a browser will wait, I have no idea which settings control that. Some sites will timeout quickly, others will crawl along for at least a minute. I suspect connectivity and responses control much of it.
