If a WU is assigned X cores, will x+1..n change anything?
My PC older, but the CPU (i5-2500k - 3,3 Ghz) is burnt-in. Still, I want to keep it below 70C (TjMax is 98, but I consider >70C will reduce the lifespan of my CPU, that's just is my opinion and I will act accordingly), which is the case at either medium or high folding power. Yet, as the weather is ...

Does folding power impact a fixed threads CPU slot?
I'm using a default configuration for my CPU slot (-1). When you set a fixed number of threads instead, I gather whatever the folding power you will always be using that set number of threads. What would the folding power change in that case? Frequency or nothing at all?

Re: Does folding power (low, medium, high) impact the GPU; h
I use Windows 10. I had set "when I'm working" in the Web Control tool, never changed it. Otherwise my slot configuration is set by default (-1, -1), that is the CPU slot is 3 of my 4 cores at most and the GPU has no specific configuration. Thank you!

Does folding power (low, medium, high) impact the GPU; how?
Changing the Folding power slider (light, medium, high) definitely has an impact on CPU usage as it changes the number of CPU cores used for a CPU slot. How does that work for the GPU, does it change anything; can you describe what would be the difference with those 3 settings for a GPU, if any?

Re: How do you make sure the client with no WU starts "pause
Thank you! I had selected the Finish function in the Advanced Control and I set pause-on-start to true in the Extra Client Options under the Expert tab in the Configure panel before I quit the client. When I restarted the client I was still in that state (pause) and that's the general use case when ...

Re: Adding folding slot for my GPU doesn't stick in the conf
That's an issue... the correct location of GPUs.txt file would be (if defaults were used): C:\Users\PantherX-H\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient If the VirtualStore path was never created, that's a good sign I think and so if you were to repeat the installation but tweak this step to match your installatio...

How do you make sure the client with no WU starts "paused"?
A feature I really like about the Advanced Control is the Finish function, which finishes the current WU(s) assigned then pauses. Sometimes I know I must shut down the computer for all sorts of reasons and I don't want to get assigned another WU then shutdown then waste time "hogging" it f...

Tentative procedure (fix) to install the 7.6.9 client on W10
This is my contribution to the support team & all for helping me out and is not intended for the end user. This is for evaluation purposes, to be compared with the 7.5.1 Fix Procedure . I'm making this new topic because some of this was buried in a post about my GPU slot not sticking (missing) b...

Re: Adding folding slot for my GPU doesn't stick in the conf
Ok, so I uninstalled the client, the data, removed all FAHClient instances on the drive, shortcuts, even some most likely really not important registry entries. I consider the rig was clean . I logged out of my normal account (which is not part of the Administrators group btw) and logged in my Admin...

Re: Reinstalling FAH client every time I reboot. Please advi
I looked at that fix. Personally I just did an express install (never tried custom) while logged into my Admin account then copied the shortcut it created to my normal account desktop and used that normal account to run the software and it works for me. I've put the shortcut in the startup directory...

Re: Switching power "can cause some work units to fail"?
Thank you for explaining this! I did check in the task manager and it's low priority indeed, it's not very demanding for sure as my rig is really not the latest (i5-2500k) and I'm using the computer normally to do the stuff I usually do. But still folding :) Also I've noticed I got assigned a signif...

Re: Adding folding slot for my GPU doesn't stick in the conf
I would say all of the above! :egeek: For me it was a first time install of the software but yesterday I reinstalled many times, with or without removing data, so who knows what happened. I'll do a quick recap of the shortcut/start menu/permissions part of what happened for people who do support and...

Re: FAH doesn't start with windows
I had a similar issue insofar as the shortcut wasn't created after the install using my regular account under Windows 10 and I needed to search for the .exe to start them etc. I guess your mileage may vary but installing as a normal user didn't work for me. What I ended up doing was logging in with ...

Re: Why is my total WU stats in the thousands: I just starte
Right. To be on the safe side, I've created a new passkey for this new name. The web control shows 0 points earned, as expected, but the stats website still shows 7996. I don't know how many times I can restart from scratch & how many issues/posts I can generate in 24hrs loll. That's not even co...

Re: Why is my total WU stats in the thousands: I just starte
Thanks! I was already using a Passkey with this 2 char username, just changed the name using "change identity" in the web control... It seems to work as my donor stats are pretty legit now i.e. 7,996 and 2 WUs. Sure I've lost 100k (2 GPU WUs) but no big deal. Don't know that I should recre...
