Re: I have to restart my computer will I lose the current wo

For the record,if you restart your computer without first explicitly pausing your FAHClient (via either FAHControl or Web Control), then you will most likely lose at least SOME work. If I'm not mistaken, FAHClient is by default configured to save a "checkpoint" every 15 minutes . Restartin...

Re: FAHViewer: in/dependence of "snapshot cycling" & "rotati

The space bar actually pauses all animation. Should be listed better on the help screen. To just stop the default rotation, press the left arrow twice. Wow, thanks! So, just to summarize, what you are really suggesting, and what I have verified as actually achieving what I wanted (to stop all autom...

Re: New web site

We've been working behind the scenes on a revamp of our web site. It went live today (http://folding.stanford.edu/home). This is part of our larger plan to make FAH more friendly and easy to use, especially to non-experts. With that said, we're now thinking about next steps to make FAH more fun and...

FAHViewer: in/dependence of "snapshot cycling" & "rotation"?

As a volunteer folder with only a general understanding of protein-folding and the GROMACS simulation software used by FAH, I wanted to ask the following (newbie?) question: Is there any reason why, in the FAHViewer program, the " snapshot cycling " feature seems to not be fully independen...

Re: Recommended Linux Installation & Configuration

I am running FAHClient in my ubuntu 20.04 latest since last 15 days but I dont know how to launch GUI. I have another PC which has windows 10 and in that I have configured by identity etc. things and it has nice GUI control as well. But here in ubuntu, I see the CPU usage is always 100% for all cor...

Re: FAH packages available on a new repo for Debian and Ubun

I can testify that I successfully installed FAH on a totally FRESH , CLEAN , and "MINIMAL" install of Ubuntu 20.04 , using the following: cd ~/Downloads/ wget -c https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/public/release/fahclient/debian-stable-64bit/v7.6/fahclient_7.6.13_amd64.deb wget -c...

Re: Increasing advocacy/engagement on Twitter+other SocialMe

Also, I'd like to humbly suggest that the entire "How can we help FAH grow" sub-forum is an important enough topic to merit appearing directly on the main Board Index (somewhere inside, hopefully even at the top of, its "General Discussions" section), instead of being buried (alb...

Re: Increasing advocacy/engagement on Twitter+other SocialMe

You seem to want the Biochemists to quit doing biochemistry and type on social media instead. I am skeptical they studied Biochemistry for all those years to abandon it. No, I do NOT necessarily expect the hardcore biochemists at the heart of this awesome and virtuous endeavor to fully abandon thei...

Increasing not just number of donors, but also ACTIVE donors

As I posted in this tweet of mine (see screenshots of graphs posted there) , one can clearly see in the Aggregate Teams Summaries of the EOC site that the weekly number of (cumulative?) total users SIGNED UP with Folding@Home has very significantly RISEN during the recent lockdown period -- which is...

Increasing advocacy/engagement on Twitter+other SocialMedia?

As one who only recently discovered Folding@Home and is trying to to spread his enthusiasm and excitement to others via social media (in my case, Twitter ), I think that there is room to strengthen the amount of both [1] similar, original, social media posting by others, as well as [2] mutual "...

Re: Reconfiguring installation to MANUALLY start?

Thank you so much, ajm and Joe_H!

Yes, I see now that switches, flags, options are documented (in general) inside the Configuration Guide FAQ, and 'pause-on-start' (specifically) also here.

Reconfiguring installation to MANUALLY start?

What is the best/easiest way to reconfigure my Folding@Home installations so that they do not automatically start upon booting, and instead allow me to manually start them? I need these instructions for both Windows and Linux . For the record: I have installed Folding@Home in the default/recommended...

Re: Multiple Computers

Does this hold true also for a single desktop machine that can be dual-booted into either Windows or Ubuntu (and in either case receiving the same static IP-address)? Yes, the unique ID assigned on first connection is not connected to your IP address. Perhaps in the case of such a dual-boot machine...

Re: Multiple Computers

If you use the same username and passkey, each computer should get a different WU. However do not clone an installation of Folding@home from one computer to another. Each installation is given an unique machine ID the first time the folding client connects to the folding servers, if you clone the i...
