Re: Remote Server Options
That must be unrelated indeed. FAHClient may fail to start on an invalid config.xml, but that won't fail the entire machine. Bummer, it's always nasty if computers start to misbehave, or refuse to behave at all. There are lies, big lies, and statistics. Results depend on exact hardware, OS, etc, etc...

Re: Remote Server Options
You have the file you need - config.xml. The password is plain text - and it's the password used for remote access, it has nothing to do with the folding account passkey. You'll need to have the address range like 192.168.122.0/24 (instead of XXX). Be sure to stop FAH Client (and any folding before ...

Re: Smaller Tasks for 750ti
Welcome to the forum! You can't select the job size as such, but you can select a cause to fold for. You can try to find one that give you smaller jobs. I can't tell you which cause has the smallest jobs, I just know that you should not choose Alzheimer's (as that will give large jobs). Note that ch...

Got a Cablemod cable today, to replace the adapter and regular PCIe cables. Looks much better.

Re: 18601 checkpoints too often
Would be nice if: - Checkpoints could be written without interrupting calculations (dunno how hard that would be if at all possible), or - There would be something like 'if last checkpoint was within x minutes, skip this one', with default of 5 or 15m, configurable with an advanced setting - that wa...

Re: 4090 Power Plug and F@H
Very interesting video about the power plugs from Gamers Nexus - including actual failure rates, en more about likely failure points:

Re: RTX 4080 PPD numbers
52m ppd must be a short fluke. There is no way a 4080 could actually run an entire job on 52m ppd. A 4090 does about half that, after all. Up to 16 mil does sound reasonable given the diff in compute power of those cards, with jobs that properly utilize that number of cuda cores.

Re: Resource hog.
If you tune the CPUs, you'll want to know that lowering the number is applied immediately, but raising the number is only used with the next job.

Re: 4090 Power Plug and F@H
With default settings up to 375 watt, with power setting on 80% it tops at 360 watt. And that is with a project 18601 job, which preoperly stresses that many cuda cores. So basically there is no use limiting the power usage on my computer :) I might as well enjoy the slightly higher FPS when I'm gam...

Re: Resource hog.
You can set the number of CPUs to 1 (from advanced control, click on Configure, then on Slots, double click on the slot cpu, then set CPUs to 1). But if you're not interested in CPU folding at all, and only want to fold on GPU, then from the same screen where you set the CPUs, add an extra slot opti...

Re: 4090 Power Plug and F@H
I do have one (ASUS TUF, regular one - the OC does add costs but almost no frequency). I run it at 80% power, which doesn't really hurt performance. It's not cold enough yet that I have to run it 24/7 but I would. I am waiting for a new cable though so that I don't need the adapter, but until that a...

Re: Alder Lake results
FAH can't set affinity itself (hopefully that'll come with client version 8). People seem to get good results with process lasso though. There are some posts about that on the forum.

Re: FAHClient crashing & GPU not recognized
Welcome to the forum! It looks like you may have two different problems here. First that failed to open of GPUs.txt.bak: are you running FAH as a different user than root, and does that user own (recursively) /var/lib/fahclient? Then as for the graphics card. What kind do you have? The card needs to...
