Re: SMP Frame times Linux vs Vista

The linux client was running an A2 core (which Windows cannot run). The A2 WUs run much faster than the older A1 WUs.

I would also recommend running only one SMP client at a time, as that is how the Pande group prefers it be done.

Re: Cheater suspected!

An Intel quad running native Linux produces about 1800 points per day per GHz (Q6600, newer quads slightly higher) on A2 SMP WUs. So running stock, a single Q6600 will complete 2.25 1920 point WU/day. No cheating going on. Yup, that's right on. My OC'd Q6600 (3.2) finishes 3x A2 WUs (1920 points ea...

Re: Is folding causing my electricity bills?

Where I live (Redondo Beach, CA, USA), we have a tiered system. If you go over a certain amount, you start paying more per Kilowatt hour. I think there are 5 tiers here. I just throw an extra $50 on to my rent, so I don't get yelled at. With the tiered system, it is too hard to decide how much the e...

Re: Way to limit download / upload speed?

I get 3 per day, but I am running the A2 cores (Advanced methods - Linux/OSX only), which run much faster. Also, my Q6600 is OC'd to 3.2GHz. My WUs are 1920 pts, and take just a tad under 8 hours to finish. If you are running a dedicated machine, I recommend a similar setup. However, if you use the ...

How many work units per day are you going through?

Re: Way to limit download / upload speed?

Something isn't right. I have 2 SMP systems, and a PS3 folding 24/7 in my house, and multiple people playing EverQuest. I have never lagged anybody out of a game. What kind of Internet connection do you have, and what network hardware are you using?

Re: Way to limit download / upload speed?

So, about 3 times per day (at most), your connection is maxed out for a few seconds while a new WU downloads?

I am afraid I don't have a solution for you, though I don't really see how this can be that troublesome. What kind of connection do you have?

Re: Highwater Mark

TFLOPs stats of PC and MAC clients only , during the last 6 months. What happened to Linux clients? My only guess is a lot of the Linux SMP folders have switched to Windows so they can run the GPU2 client. That would also explain why Windows CPU folding has increased as well. People have switched f...

I'm pretty sure they have said that they don't reassign points for any reason. I can't pull a quote, but I am pretty sure that was said.

Explicit/Implicit ratio?

I have watched as CPU TFLOPs have decreased a bit (especially in Linux), while GPU2 TFLOPs have gone through the roof. Since it has been said that both Explicit and Implicit solvent models are needed, I was wondering if there is any sort of ratio that is optimal for the science? Would there ever be ...

Re: FahMon (multi-platform app to monitor various F@h clients)

Greetings everybody, So, I just got my machine working again (had to swap out motherboards), and it is once again folding. I finally remembered how to compile FahMon (running on Ubuntu 8.04), and I got that running. However, FahMon appears to be calculating my PPD incorrectly. I should be getting ne...

Re: Slow SMP folding - Asus G45 - Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha

I was actually the OP in that thread. :ewink:

That was due to a speedstep problem with my laptop. The people who responded got me running at full speed again, and I've been folding well on my laptop since. This unfortunately, is a completely different problem. :(

Re: Slow SMP folding - Asus G45 - Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha

Well, I am thinking of buying an old G33 board, and returning this one. I can't have my dedicated folder sucking. I really don't want to do that, so I am hoping some solution presents itself.

Re: Slow SMP folding - Asus G45 - Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha

Can you check what you RAM b/w is? F@H seems to not gain much from core clock speed, but does seem to gain a lot from fast RAM I/O, so that seems to be where it tends to get bottlenecked. Have you made sure you put your DIMMs in the right slots for both channels to be active? (Sorry, I don't mean t...
