Re: Empty work server assignment???
To put it another way: I think that GROMACS sees no problem with disallowing 7 cores because honestly, are there *any* CPU's with 7 logical cores instead of a multiple of 2? But FaH defaults don't align with this, because FaH defaults subtract 1 for the GPU. So what is unlikely for GROMACS becomes h...

Re: Empty work server assignment???
"Houston, we have a problem." (sic) Consider the facts here. The servers have NOT been changed. The FAHCore has not been changed. What's left? I suspect that the active servers have run out of projects for which 7 CPUs has been permitted. Please look back in your logs. What were the last ...

Re: Empty work server assignment???
Wow. That's quite a blow from GROMACS since I would imagine that 7 CPU's are a plurality of contributors (or nearly so).
I will follow 7im's instructions.

Re: Empty work server assignment???
Apparently workservers were changed during the weekend to not give workunits to clients running "Large Prime" (7, 11, 13, 17, 19 etc.) number of threads . Your client seem to be set at 7 threads, so change it to next lower one. In OP's case 6. How do I do that? And yeah that seems strange...

Re: Empty work server assignment???
I am not the OP but having the same issue. Looks like some servers are empty. Pasting my logs below. *********************** Log Started 2016-05-31T00:56:00Z *********************** ******************************* Date: 2016-05-31 ******************************* 15:30:00:FS00:Unpaused 15:30:00:WU01:...

inspired by FAH -finding a computational biology job in NYC?
I've been working as a software developer for 2.5 years since graduating from college (including Java) and recently finished an internship at a financial startup in Manhattan. I've realized that I'd like to get involved in computational biology if at all possible - I find it very exciting, and much ...

Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
I have folded on 3 Dell laptops over about 4 years and have not had any significant problems (earlier than that, I ran SETI@Home which also worked fine). Some pointers: 1. Most good laptops can handle being run at 100% for SMP or Uniprocessor. If you have a bad fan, you might need to set it lower. D...

Re: Some info that really puts things into perspective
Yeah but how much time is really needed to get the relevant information? I had assumed that only the first few milliseconds were interesting. Would you ever need 24 hours of simulation?

client statistics
I've noticed they've gradually gone down from 5 petaflops to 4.5 over the past couple of months (i.e. not just because of the recent stat updates). Any ideas why? Maybe different WU's end up resulting in different FLOP counts? Or maybe a changing failure rate for GPU WU's? I suppose this is just spe...

Re: Ever shrinking window of availabiliy of stats.
The amount of work units you've contributed isn't going to disappear from the stats... only the individual projects that you've completed... Yes I know, but we were talking about the individual project stats. As I said, there is a good reason to maintain those stats in the long run as a promotional...

Re: Ever shrinking window of availabiliy of stats.
I was referring to the stats as a whole but I'm just going to have to chalk it up as something I dont understand. The points, I get. The work units contributed [not specific projects], I get. Needing more detail displayed SOMEWHERE for PS3... I get [but think that is an issue to take up with SOE no...

what language is F@H written in?
Checked around on the Wiki and searched the forum but couldn't find anything on this. I seem to recall somebody saying that the cores were written directly in assembly for speed, is that true? Or maybe C or C++? Just curious, really.

Re: problems with all SMP servers
@bruce et al., So, it looks like the problem was my ISP after all. I started seeing browser problems as well a few hours ago (browser claiming it was offline, but then loading the page upon refresh), and eventually I decided to drop the connection and try a USB broadband card (aka "pc card"...
