Re: Stop client from fetching a new WU after current finishe
Note that the new client downloads the next WU at 98% or 99% as a default, so you want to set it to finish before that percentage.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce 320.00 Beta is available
That is why I don't use betas (unless the card is so new no WHQL production versions exist yet)

Re: Updating clients
I have had good luck upgrading from 7.x to the current version. Just pause all folding, quit the client and upgrade.

Re: New poll/discussion: improving technical descriptions
You completely missed the "I want more detail" option, you seem determined to dumb them down to uselessness. "This project involves folding proteins" will not help any one understand any better than "This project is a test of a novel means to significantly accelearate Foldin...

Re: New Member - Give more to FAH
Each Slot either 'works' or does not work. You could raise the priority of the SMP slot, but it will not do more work, it will just make doing other work more painful. Changing the priority of the GPU slot is even less usefu,l as it is not using CPU resources, only GPU resources. F@H will use as muc...

Re: New Member - Give more to FAH
Version 7 of F@H will try to install a SMP (Symmetric Multi Processor) Slot will 12 threads and a GPU slot. The SMP core will be the lowest priority on your system, and 'hide' nicely when you need to use the PC for something else. The GPU slot has no inherent priority, so it is more likely to be 'in...

Re: Momentum
I consider F@H a hobby for my computer, not me. (I have not folded a single WU, the computer does)
It has been folding since 01/09, as I needed a second video card to run two monitors. It has been folding it's little heart out and has 14 million points, 9655 PPD

Re: CPU Architecture and FAH
I set up a sandy bridge i3 for a client last week. The i3 has 2 cores with 4 threads, (hyperthreading) I used SMP:2 as I expected much of the time to be spent doing SIMD instructions. Has anyone done tests of the i3 or i7 (as I understand it, the i5 does not hyperthread) trying SMP:number of threads...

Re: Programming background of community - expanded
My mother pulled wires to program a computer during WW II, (stored programs came later) she did not decide what wires to move, she just did the plugging and unplugging. (Once the war was over she was fired, and replaced by a man) By contrast, my father did not start programming until 1957. (assembly...

Re: NVidia folding - *real* FahCore_1?.exe CPU utilization?
I suspect DMA is using clock cycles even though the CPU is not using them. That would match your results without any CPU time being lost. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_memory_access It specifically mentions that getting data on and off a graphics card will use DMA, certainly F@H will move data...

Re: Can I contribute with this setup?
You would use so much power in a Pentium D, for so little result, I would save up and buy a modern CPU.

Re: Poll: Stand-alone client for your OS? Yes/no/unsure
I am against it, a 'stand alone' client greatly increases chances of fraud and unauthorized use of company equipment.
