Re: CPU or GPU Client?

Sounds more like theres an issue where they're getting errors and submitting the work unit incomplete repeatedly... Anyhow I'm on a P4 3.2Ghz with HT which for whatever reason misrepresents itself as a Pentium D... or I'm misunderstanding something *shrug* I'm about to upgrade the video card to a PC...

Re: How to increase productivity and interest in my folding team

Bruce.. that is a great way of getting people started... and like you said every little bit helps... 3) Why not? FAH is a way you can contribute to a worthy cause with almost no investment or bother on your part. Install a single CPU client as a service and then forget about it. You don't have to do...

Re: Folding Farmer, or other Folding as a service

You know there are probably a couple places that do things similar to Adopt-A-Rig that the Overclocker forum folding group does if you're looking to specifically put your $$ to hardware/processing capability. You may want to consider contacting a group that does something similar to that and provide...

Re: Folding Farmer, or other Folding as a service

The... "success" of one of these services [even legitimate ones] would encourage ripoffs and cons to pop up etc etc... I like the coffee cup idea one of the respondants had.. if you're stretched for space etc then donations direct to the Pande group through Stanford University would be a g...

Re: Scheduling folding for off-peak electricity times?

Ah, thanks for the alternative... After some quick calculations using our peak/offpeak tariffs for electricity it works out that running F@H 2100-0700 [10hrs a day instead of 24] would cost 1/2 the price per hour... a decent saving in running costs. Looking at some of the other threads around it see...

Re: Scheduling folding for off-peak electricity times?

Hehe thanks for the suggestion will get on that as soon as I get home... points might take a bit of a hit and contribution will go down but at least I'll be able to continue :)

Scheduling folding for off-peak electricity times?

So I got the biggest energy bill of my life for the last 3 months... $950ish Australian up from 580 in the previous 3 months [and I thought 580 was bad :( ]... granted we've just seen a 20% increase in electricity tariffs in my area and a lot of the energy usage occurs elsewhere in the household... ...

Re: Benchmarks

That makes a bit more sense. I was just looking through some posts on the FAH Hardware side of the forum but as a layperson it all ends up looking like gobledigook :) Anyhow... will move my queries to more appropriate threads, cheers Bruce.

Re: Benchmarks

For technical dullards like myself do those links show Nvidia cards folding 3-4x faster than ATI cards of the same generations? Is this because NVidia have worked closer with the Pande group than AMD/ATI or just the technical difference in the cards? ... I guess I'm asking will it likely balance out...

Re: Future Competitions and the future of the folding project?

Just saw this on Prof. Pande's blog... Stanford is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity and thus a donation of money to Folding@home is tax deductible. Stanford's Federal Tax ID number is 94-1156365. Also, many companies help individuals donate to Stanford by providing matching funds. Does anyone know how ...

Re: How to increase productivity and interest in my folding team

Seems like this would be a problem common to most if not all folding teams... personally I'd just suggest keeping up to date with the research results and advances in technology related to folding [new video cards, new cooling systems, new ways of keeping everything running smoothly]. Present summar...

Re: Site opportunities...

There are a few F@H for dummies guides out there but it'd be nice to have one directly on the website as an "official" guide. If you came here as a layperson you'd be VERY lucky to come away with a client appropriate to your system specs and even then it would be unlikely that you'd run it...

Re: 128.59.74.4 in Reject

My work units were sent successfully.
Guess it was just the fact that the servers are so busy.

Thanks for fixing it guys and girls.
