Re: Potentially offtopic: curecoins ?
For the purposes of this topic, put me down as a novice. I've done fah for several years, but have never delved into bitcoin/altcoin. In the past, early in April there have always been questions deducting donations to fah on your taxes. The general thrust of the answers has been: no which is consist...

Re: How Useful Is F@H To The Public?
Assuming we had a device that can scan the structure of already folded proteins on a atomic/molecular level: Why would we then need f@h still? Would f@h give us any additional information and if yes, what kind of additional information would we get other than knowing the structure of the folded pro...

Re: Project 8900 problems
All GPU folding is very dependent on drivers for functionality. Staying current is helpful. Core 17 has been in testing for quite a while now, then released to advanced months ago and made full public a week ago. No, core 17 is replacing all the older GPU cores. You can read about in on the new blo...

Re: I have a problem: Failed to read stream.
When I first installed FAH on my stand-alone computer, the MS firewall told me it was blocking some f@h features. I had to tell it to permit those connections. Communications between fahclient and fahcontrol can be blocked if you don't tell Windows it's ok.

Re: Is GPU folding more valuable than CPU folding scientific
As a general rule the gpus that people have are computationally more powerful than the cpus that people have. Since faster is better and the gpu software now is just as capable as the cpu software has always been, gpus are preferred. That's a general statement, though and it may not apply to your cp...

Re: Why is PPD so inaccurate?
To calculate PPD, you must predict the future. How quickly will your system complete the current projects? Computing an AVERAGE frame time will allow FAH to ASSUME that it has measured FAH's progress over a long enough time period to project that progress will continue to be made at the current rate...

Re: Issue with CPU usage and overheating
I agree that you should not need to become an IT expert to Fold (or BOINC) but you would need to be satisfied with the default settings. Stanford (and probably Berkeley) establishes conservative defaults. They may not give you the maximum number of points but they should give you a reasonably stable...

Re: Project 8900 WORK_QUIT (404)
I read somewhere here (I can't find it right now, but I'm still looking) that there was a study that showed a fairly "high correlation" between GPU core temperature and FAH calculation failure rate. If FAH runs differently with high temperatures, it's because the GPU is making calculation...

Re: Update server? [stats down]
Correct but I had read the earlier post about the time stamp error and was taking that into concideration so from what was posted earlier it appears it was entirley possible for the QRB to be messed up. Wrong, again. Any time-stamps that you can see are relative to your local clock, not the server ...

Re: Langouste -- WU upload/download de-coupler (+upload capp
15.10 (along with 15.9) collectively include over one year of fixes and enhancements -- see CHANGES section in the OP and do not hesitate to ask for details! I would recommend an upgrade to every Langouste user -- if there still are any  For those of us running v7 clients, downloading and up...

Re: Can't get 2 CPUs to process
:P Don't waste your time installing V6. Bruce has already explained how the fahcore's do or do not work based on the value passed from either the V7 or the V6 client five posts above. The fahcores invoked by the v6 client are also invoked by the v7 client and they share the same limitations. It's th...

Re: Can't get 2 CPUs to process
It's not clear to me exactly what you want from F@H. Judging from the title, maybe it's your desire to have on CPU idle and one folding. The default is to have both cpus working to speed up a single WU but that has been overheating your machine. Having each cpu working on a different WU won't improv...

Re: Wow...just wow[about the new homepage]
Face it, guys and gals. FAH is not turning against those of us who have folded for long enough to appreciate the science and to be familiar with all the ins-and-outs of the tech feel that we've gotten used to. You're still an important segment of the people who fold. There still are millions of comp...

Re: Servers for old G8x/G9x GPUs are down ...
Two (or more) GPU2 work servers were down. Only 171.67.108.21 has been fixed so you can download new WUs and upload the results. Server 171.67.108.11 is still down so the last WU you got from there cannot be uploaded. As we said earlier, these servers are approaching EoL and there's no functional co...

Re: New Landing Page - Networked Computers?
Individual donors is not individual computers. I don't know about others, but I fold with 3 computers and a total of 5 slots. Which number adequately represents me?
