Re: Change in BA requirements

Ill keep my 4p 24 core running until the deadline next year! and maybe beyond! If your intent is to keep running BA that may be a problem. With the 5/01/2014 core count change there will also be a deadline change for the WU per Dr. Pande's post. 1) The posted change in BA requirements will be revis...

Re: Change in BA requirements

Thank you Dr. Pande for taking time in responding.

Passions run deep on both sides, hopefully all this will bring out a better F@H experience for us all.

Thanks again to bruce and the other admin for letting this all play out, it must have been tuff.

Re: Change in BA requirements

We understand that donors may decide to redirect their priorities. We are thankful for all donations that people have made in the past. On a separate note, there has been a fair amount of discussion about ways to make the points system (and large work units) more consistent and predictable for dono...

but the academics are dealing with non academic donors in the non academic world.

Who needs to be made happier...the academics asking people to be donors or the people willing to donate to the academics research?

Here...to a point...but mostly because of what we post on other forums

Here are a few more threads that were missed the first time around.

Here, here, here, here and here.

Re: Change in BA requirements

P.S: I might be BANNED from this forum... :D :D It is unfortunate, that seems to be the goal of several in this thread. I am quite certain that personal respect, professionalism, sound arguments, and sensible discussion will gain an appropriate reply in due time. The rest is just distracting noise ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

1) There is NO BOINC project that will give you nearly as many points for your BA rigs, as FAH does. Check it out! Not speaking for Grandpa_01 because he is more than able to do so for himself but you can't compare F@H points to BOINC points, that's like comparing the yen to the dollar...at the end...

Re: Change in BA requirements

I went through the log on one of my 4p, 32 threads @ 2.47GHz 8566~134,000ppd 8819~130,000ppd 8101~216,000ppd 8103~353,000ppd 8104~337,000ppd 8105~340,000ppd It looks to me that SMP's and 8101's are undervalued while the rest of the BA's are closer to where they should be due to out of pocket expense...

Re: Change in BA requirements

Lots of good suggestions have been made in this thread - now its time for PG to show that they do actually listen to donors otherwise Mr Donor relations guy is going to spend the 1st 6months of his tenure trying to mend a lot of broken fences I do hope it's a gal because she'll have more sway over ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

I should also point out that one could equally conclude that BA work units are overvalued rather than that SMP are undervalued. A number of people have made this point, and it is not clear (and not entirely in my hands) which direction the points scheme will move. I would personally be in favor of ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

This one too. What systems can run these work units? Right now, only Linux and OS/X systems can run these work units, and they require 8 or more cores. We prefer 8+ *physical* cores, although fast Core i7 machines that are dedicated folders have proven sufficient during the testing process. The poin...

Re: Change in BA requirements

Well, again just for perspective: Bruce attempts to explain and "defend" the current system. When we are discussing failures, or flaws in the current system, this can become counterproductive. Attaching personal blame is likewise counterproductive. What needs to be addressed is the struct...
