Re: Change in BA requirements

I must admit that the Grinch in me didn't expect my "Please" request to work. In some cases I was right and in some cases (thankfully) people are cooperating. Did you make that request on behalf of Vijay Pande or your own (just to demonstrate excellent *cough* leadership) ? I can't follow...

Please aim your resources at SMP rather than BA.

(I've got to admit I feel pretty stupid doing this.)
Credibility is essential prerequisite for making such requests.

You are in no position to make such requests, bruce.

Re: Change in BA requirements

... 6 months are not too much to ask, are they? No. Neither is this... 1. Anyone building a borderline BA system (16 cores or slightly more) in the last 6 months knowing that core counts get raised from time to time, and that core counts haven't been changed in quite a longer time, was short sighte...

Re: Change in BA requirements

[      EDIT: there is also way of telling who's folding bigadv units -- you can use passkey to subsequently retrieve           donors' e-mails -- why not communicate over e-mail with bigadv donors? Agree to everything your wrote, except the email thing for BA donors; while it would be good for acti...

Re: Change in BA requirements

Umm, you're missing the point. Two months? Try two years! Two years ago it was clearly stated that BA was an experimental program and that it would be reassessed from time to time. Of course, but that does not constitute advance notice. Would you still say two years notice was given if changes were ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

The conversation about what the role of BA is in the project is a good one to have. The BA program has been of particular scientific benefit to my research group, but the FAH project as a whole has needed to position BA within a broad range of scientific needs. Data that helped inform where to plac...

Re: Change in BA requirements

Those numbers are useful to put a scale of bigadv against all SMP but I think more useful would be: total # of active FAH machines running bigadv # of active FAH machines running bigadv >24 cores # of active FAH machines running bigadv >32 cores Then they can be converted to percentages. The reason...

and turn off the BA assignments while that's done.
Is funny because it's no longer a request :D

Re: Change in BA requirements

Dear Vijay, Considering that the requirements for bigadv will be increasing in time, maybe what would be best is for us to try to lay out further in advance the schedule for changes? Advance notice is much appreciated. Though, given significant difference between same-core-count hardware, it's not o...

Re: Langouste -- WU upload/download de-coupler (+upload capp

Langouste 15.10 is now available. Details are available in the first post . We've actually been through two releases recently but I never got around to announcing availability of 15.9 -- shame on me... 15.10 (along with 15.9) collectively include over one year of fixes and enhancements -- see CHANGE...

Re: Normal thekraken Behavior? [Yes]

Tom-a-to, tom-ah-to. Either way, it's a brain-dead method of ensuring data are secure on disk. fsyncing every 4k is plain stupid because a short-file, no matter how securely stored on-disk, is unusable by FAH. Imagine you have 100MB to write as part of WU completion process. Imagine something happen...

Re: Normal thekraken Behavior? [Yes]

And, for the record, Kraken doesn't have anything to do with Gehacktesmacher's issue.

It's multi-year-old bug that's present in all SMP FahCores and series 6 clients.

Re: Gain Control of Team

To rephrase, I'm hoping for either:

-A way to contact the owner of Ron Paul 2012
That's probably the best way forward.

FAH administration should be able to assist.
