Re: Nvidia GTX 1080 & 1070 EVGA Cards Reportedly Catching Fi

Thanks to this thread I have got my board registered and the thermal pads ordered for my EVGA GTX 1070 SC card. The last thing I need to do is burn down my house trying to Fold Proteins! I haven't seen much news about this anywhere else. I have posted to our Folding thread on my Team site as well......

Time Out Uploading to CS 140.163.4.242

I just happened to notice that one of my Folders with three slots had four WUs listed in the Queue (One at 100%) so I thought I'd watch the upload progress. Well, it got to a little over 55% and then hung. After timing out, it switched to a different CS and uploaded fine. 13:43:34:WU00:FS01:0x21:Com...

Programmer must have had a Commodore Amiga! :)

You were able to upload, so it sounds like your Local Network and WAN connections are okay. Have you tried a restart?

Re: P4@2.8 plus GTX960/ATI380, will it fold?

I have a 2006-era Mac Pro running at 2.66 GHz and a GTX 970 card inside. It does the job, although don't expect much from a CPU slot. But the PCI-e x16 slot is Gen 1 and it still cranks out around 300K PPD on average. Instead of the GTX 960, though, I think you'd be better off getting a new 3GB GTX ...

Re: GTX750 Ti

If you already have the card, it should get Work Units. My GTX 750Ti was running around 50-60K PPD before I retired it just this last week. The one I had was PCIe bus powered, though, so it may have been limited for power.

Re: 2nd video card

Recent GPUs.txt file changes are logged in this topic . From a post made 21-July in the referenced thread: No new models of GPUs can be added to the GPUs.txt list until Pande Group fixes the update script problem that I emailed them about 2 days ago. GTX 1060 is enabled, but won't say GTX 1060 unti...

Re: 2nd video card

Hmmm, I'm sure it's just because it's a newer card, but the new EGA GTX 1060 Superclocked 3GB card is ID'd as "GP106 [xxx]" I checked the GPUs.txt file and that's the entry for the PCI ID: 0x10de:0x1c02:2:5:GP106 [xxx] Output from the "FAHClient --lspci" is 0x10de:0x13c2:NVIDIA C...

Re: Open Air Dedicated Folder and Guide

The PC components block the RF interference. The cheap aluminum cases that most PC's are in are for airflow, mounting, and keeping things off the components than protecting from other things. Ah, obviously quite a far cry from the days we'd run special machine code programs on our PDP-11 to play &q...

Re: Linux, Phantom GPU: UNSUPPORTED: NV3 [PCI]

I noticed the OP has a GTX 1070, and I saw this same behavior on my Dell T7400 after I installed my new GTX 1070. It hasn't seemed to have a negative impact on Folding. Due to the difference in slot order, mine shows GPU0 as NVIDIA:5 GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070], GPU1 as UNSUPPORTED: NV3 [PCI], and GPU2...

Re: 2nd video card

I have my new GTX 1070 and old GTX 960 in the same Ubuntu 14.04 LTS box and they're happily Folding with the 367.35 (circa July 2016) NVIDIA drivers. I see there is a newer version (367.44) available, but I haven't upgraded as of yet. You should be quite happy with the GTX 1060. I'm looking at repla...

Re: Nvidia Pascal GPU cards???

Please be careful. This is a little close to the line of this forum's standard for being hardware agnostic, maybe even a little over the line. Sorry, 7im, you're right. Since the thread was about NVIDIA's Pascal cards, I wasn't thinking about equal opportunity for AMD's latest silicon. Thank you, A...

Re: Nvidia Pascal GPU cards???

I'm sure there are plenty of Folders who know about this site, but I just came across it a few weeks ago. http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/ lists all the NVIDIA GPUs and tracks their availability and prices (if available). Click on the flag at the top of the site to check for ot...

Re: Open Air Dedicated Folder and Guide

...The only concern I would have is RFI. Do you have any HAM radio operators in your area? If so, you could check to see if they have any reception issues. I was thinking about the RF Interference issue as well, but more close to home. Doesn't this knock out your (and possibly your neighbor's) WiFi...

Re: geforce 1080 vs 1070

Yeah, good point. I guess I'm trusting NVIDIA's software to provide good feedback. I just took it to mean that once the atoms are loaded into the GPU's memory, there isn't a lot of traffic back and forth. I'm probably very, very wrong in that assumption! :) I just got the GTX 1070 up and running so ...

Re: Tesla M2070

YMMV, but I've had good luck with off-lease or refurbished workstations. I picked up a Dell Precision T7400 last year for under $350 US delivered. I think it was a mistake as it had dual quad-core 3.0 GHz Xeons, 16 GB of RAM, and a pair of 250 GB SATA III drives in addition to the 1000 Watt power su...
