Re: Help building out a folding machine (motherboard specifically)

I run both AMD and Intel boards for folding and have built more than 10 folding rigs over the years. My advice is to build it for your primary use and look for extra capacity for folding, if folding primary use build in capacity for other future uses. If primary use is gaming build for gaming but lo...

Me too, this quite out of character.

Re: agri-food WU

Really we are contributing to science on a general level, this is very useful to understand about processes even if they seem not to be relevant, all research into this particular topic of protein folding and associated science adds to the understanding of general principles. Research on weeds may s...

I think what is being proposed is adding a case fan directed at this passively cooled card may actively cool it a bit more.

Re: What are the requirements for a Project server

I think a server is quite a difficult project, maybe better off giving a donation to the research team or the general project for economy of scale but perhaps you have access to these resources in which case someone may be able to direct to that next step. Building a folding system is more easily at...

Re: 18027 Bad Work Unit

I just watched one of these all the way through on my RTX 2080ti 18207 (5/805/3) it completed successfully but had the time per frame rate of 2-3 seconds.
Very small units and ppd estimates all over the place due to the super fast frame rate.

Re: Adverse effects of running F@H

I have folded since 2009 and built 9 dedicated folding rigs, I have moved continents 4 times in that period so usually just left them behind as I moved, but I have rarely actually burned out anything outside of reasonable time and some hardware has proved far more resilient than others. For GPU's my...

Re: FAH Overall Rank

Very large systems with multiple GPUs have happened in several generations, more recently with repurposed mining rigs but 12 years or so ago people also had rigs with 4 GPUs on extended ATX motherboards. In 2009-11 I ran 4 x systems 3 with 4 GPUs in each and 1 with 3. GPUs were simpler and cheaper a...

Re: RTX 4090 and 4090Ti showcased and benchmarked :)

Great idea to power directly from the wall, still think the PCIE lanes may bottle neck performance somewhat, oh and the risk of users being sucked into the fan vortex may make this a poor choice for small apartments.

Re: No GPU WU, shortage or other cause?

I'm waiting for work too.... Though it did not help to have to do an O/S re-installation from scratch on my 16-core system (including drivers and F@H; to fix something I messed up). Paul When there are workunit shortages like currently this is IMO the best time to do reinstalls, updates, case clean...

Re: Thoughts/Opinions MMR vaccine

It has been noted for some time that live vaccines such as the MMR seem to also generate some immunity to other infections for periods of time, it is not clear however how useful this in under current circumstances. If you are due to have an MMR booster then by all means do it, if you are not you wo...

Re: GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 support enabled !

Thanks for that Gnomuz, there will be lots of variation between how different work units look on different cards, but from your initial data the 3060ti looks like a nice one for folding. NVIDIA does weird stuff with models especially ti models so I would not be surprised if an xx60ti was not so diff...

Hard to say looks by cores that it could be similar to a RTX 2070/80 but lots of variables, a promising new member of the elusive 3000 series family.
