Re: new NVida driver and MSI afterburner overclock

I understand that FAH does not support overclocking. However, MSI has an automatic overclock tool that seems to work well. I have been using a new card overclocked with this feature for a couple of weeks now and no problem. I would not try to do a manual overclock, and I have left the memory speed a...

new NVida driver and MSI afterburner overclock

Should you run the MSI afterburner overclock scan after you do a driver update, or will the overclock settings still be ok? I can't seem to find any answer doing a quick web search. In other words, does a driver update imply doing another overclock session with afterburner? I would rather avoid the ...

Re: CPU vs GPU work units

My original question has been answered by PantherX and Bruce and JimboPalmer (and everyone else). The outputs are the same, but the algorithms are different. Given my background, I was just curious. I was not trying to say that one method (or its hardware implementation) was better than the other--I...

Re: CPU vs GPU work units

You made me think of something I had not. It is possible that they are using two different algorithms to obtain the same information (protein folding trajectories). One algorithm may do better in one situation, and the other may do better in a different. The choice is up to the researcher. It is pos...

Re: CPU vs GPU work units

Ok, I am not saying CPU is more or less valuable than GPU. Every little bit helps. However, my undergraduate degree was a double major in computational mathematics and chemistry so I have an interest in both. I am just curious if different information is being extracted. That is all. I am not making...

Re: CPU vs GPU work units

I may be posting this twice, but I think my last post was dropped for some reason. To my knowledge (which may be wrong), a CPU can do anything a GPU can do, although it might be at a much slower pace. I don't believe the reverse is true. I think a CPU can do more complex logic (like multiple branche...

Re: CPU vs GPU work units

I appreciate the reply, but it really does not answer my question. Let me try to ask in another way. In the context of Folding@Home, do CPU work units do something that is actually different than GPU work units? Are the CPU work units providing information that cannot be obtained from GPU work units...

CPU vs GPU work units

Do CPU work units perform computations that GPU cannot do, or do CPU work units just perform a slower implementation of GPU work units? Is there any value in CPU work units that cannot be obtained faster with GPU work units?

Unfortunately, the one thread limit does not work 100%. I have other posts on this forum about this suggestion. I ran it and still had issues. :(

Re: 13421 gets to 100% then crashes

A little more information for Bruce: I brought up the process monitor for core 22. Memory usage seems to be stable. The virtual bytes peak is ~9GB. While this is bigger than the page file, it easily fits into 32 GB of ram. The page file peak for the process is only ~190MB. Don't know if this helps, ...

Re: 13421 gets to 100% then crashes

Bruce,

My page file is managed by the system, and is currently a little less that 5 GB. This is on top of 32 GB of physical memory. Do you think that I would need to resize anything? If yes, what do you suggest (I don't see an unlimited option in windows--only system managed).

What is your GPU hardware? I have AMD RX 570 and have seen this issue.

I thought that affinity would also fix the problem viewtopic.php?f=81&t=35482&start=30 However, I still had issues. Personally, I am waiting for a new core.

Re: Error handling in FAH

With the advanced control interface, you can select finish. This will not download any new WU, and will pause after the queue is empty. Unfortunately, some jobs seem to fail over and over and never complete. Note that in pause mode, nothing will be downloaded until fold is selected.

Re: debugging sudden low performance on RX5500

I am currently running the 13416 project. I am seeing continuous high CPU usage (2 to 4 times normal) , and relatively low GPU usage (~75%). I also see this when the 22 core is the only significant CPU process on the system. AMD RX 570, windows 10 professional.
