Re: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Intel does have very large share of the CPU market and very large % of those CPUs does have integrated GPU. Also, Intel is actively developing their drivers and OpenCL support including Linux side of things. Maybe they are willing to contribute some time and effort for the OpenMM development as well...

Re: Intel HD Graphics 4000

During early testing, some folding was attempted on HD4xxx hardware. At that time, Development determined that those GPUs were too inefficient when given the type of workload that FAH required to be worth it. It would be more efficient to use the CPU time by adding a Uniprocessor WU or by releasing...

Re: What will Folding@Home be like 20 years ago?

Do not fear the future - any CPU advancements will be negated by some sloppy programming. What ever will happen you find your computer to work sluggish enough to get a shiny new model (every couple of years at least)...

Re: Radeon HD 4850: Failed to get assignment from 'assign-GP

As a general rule running of the folding@home client can not be the sole reason to buy a computer. The issue of that thread is clear case why you can not base your buying decisions on "I can fold on it". Maybe you can do it now or you base your hope that you'll get to do it tomorrow. You m...

Re: FAHControl and remote clients

It may be a networking issue this time, but I tend to get some strange not connecting issues with the FAHControl what can not be explained by networking. There are times when FAHControl is showing the remote client as running, but attempt to download a log from it will fail. The FAHControl keeps on ...

Re: GPU Client, Sapphire Radeon 6670

The Radeon 6670 should not be that exotic to have a need to mess around with any dll or GPU whitelist file. Why did you needed those things at the first place? Does the GPU-Z report as your system having OpenCL support, I doubt it, but either case just go out and undo your OpenCL.dll magic and insta...

Re: p8004: FAHCore A4 v2.27 crash on Fedora Rawhide

I just moved the work folder away and restarted the FAH client. Project: 8004 (Run 94, Clone 3, Gen 194) crash

I have a Fedora Rawhide running FAH v7 and it is now segfaulting all the time: FahCore_a4[1749]: segfault at 7fb7e4b08590 ip 00000000006d3767 sp 00007fb7f035df20 error 4 in FahCore_a4[400000+5e9000] Current project: Project: 8004 (Run 94, Clone 3, Gen 194) I've removed the core files, but it seems t...

Re: Future of F@H: folding speed and protein size

Hardware has improved rapidly. but the 10n, 10µs 10ms, 10s(?) scale is phenomenal. I wonder what part of that isn't just hardware. (Better software, more people doing FAH, etc.) I wonder that as well, but I expect most power is coming from the software advances, because hardware is still getting be...

Re: 100% CPU usage... recommended?

There should be no issues for you as usually computer equipment is designed and made so it is perfectly able to work even under 100% of CPU load over extended periods of time.

Re: 128bit vs 256bit for GPU folding

The more important factors are how many CUDA cores each card has and what each card's maximum stable clock speed is. If a card with lesser CUDA cores but higher core clock, will it fold better than a card with higher CUDA cores but lower core clock? Thank you Answer to your question is defined by F...

Re: 128bit vs 256bit for GPU folding

If the past is any measure then do not buy equipment for the folding only. You may find relatively soon that you decided badly and project needs and abilities does not "favour" you anymore (if it ever did). Just take ability to fold as an added bonus and choose your equipment according to ...

Re: Is folding based on BOINC?

At the time there was a BOINC wrapper around FAH COSM client. Basically it was just a BOINC interfacing library around normal FAH client. Why it was dropped? There were no official statements about the reasons, it turned out that at some point the BOINC developer left the Pande Group and BOINC serve...
