Re: FAH on ubuntu 17.04
Almost all of my folding systems were set up on XUbuntu 14.04 with just the normal "client gets slots confused" type issues. I have not tried it on 16.04 LTS or 17.04 and at this point I'm not inclined to do so as I am pulling OUT of Folding over the continuing issues from Stanfard and the...

Re: Should two GTX-1070s be "strapped" together??? [FAH: Y o
Strapping cards via SLI (or Crossfire on the AMD side) often causes performance DROPS when trying to use the cards in a compute environment.
It is strongly recommended to NOT enable SLI (or Crossfire) on a Folding machine.

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
Both systems running Slackware 14.x with a modern kernel. But I also got this same amount last year on Debian. How did you get folding working on Slackware (I'm presuming 14.2)? I'd LOVE to drop XUbuntu on my dedicated folding rigs but could never get folding running under Slackware.... As far as P...

Re: PCI-e bandwidth/capacity limitations
It has been tested and shown that a PCI-E 2.0 8x slot has a noticeable negative performance impact on FAH work vs a PCI-E 2.0 16x slot OR a PCI-E 3.0 8x slot. PCI 3.0 8x and 16x AT THIS POINT seem to have no significant performance difference even on Pascal-based Titan and GTX 1080ti cards. For refe...

Re: Best MOBO, yet again
IMO probably your best option for a MB that will support 3 GPUs on the LGA1151 platform is the Gigabyte GA-Z270XP-SLI, in a fairly low-cost price range. To get better than 2 slots at PCI-E 3.0 8x lanes you're looking at MBs that are in more like the $250 and UP range. I'm not sure what you mean by a...

Re: Stats not updating?
The problem is on Stanford's end - the server(s) that generate the "flat file" they REQUIRE third party stat sites to use has been borked more of the time this past week than not, and quite a bit of the time for the last month. The issue has been going on so long it's starting to tick some...

Re: Extreme Overclocking Stats not updating
And the Standford stats server is borked AGAIN - seems like they "fix them" then they last perhaps a few hours and go down/fail AGAIN. IMO Stanford should farm out their stats to an outside third party that actually CARES about keeping the stats infrastructure working, the last month has b...

Re: Stats not updating?
Hopefully they'll get the move to new hardware done SOON, since the old hardware has been showing WAY too much downtime the last couple weeks to be trusted.

Re: Should two GTX-1070s be "strapped" together??? [FAH: Y o
Based on quite a bit of testing by a lot of folks, 372.90 seems to be the best driver for any GTX 10xx series card EXCEPT the 1080ti (which isn't supported at all by that old of a driver version) and probably the Titan Xp (same reason). Newer drivers often introduce ISSUES that reduce performance, s...

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
The nvidia driver can only use one CPU core per GPU. Looks like really old slow CPUs limit the new fast GPUs. "My short-lived rig with a pair of GTX 1080ti running on a dual-core Intel G4600 (Kaby Lake 3.5 Ghz) WAS CPU LIMITING NOTICEABLY on both GPUs" That is interesting, did anyone else...

Re: Guidance for building a folding dedicated computer
AMD FX series are a lot lower cost for the same number of cores, ... Ignore "hyperthreaded" cores - they do NOT work well to support folding GPUs, they MIGHT be worth a QUARTER of a real core. ... In fact, ignore AMD AMD FX supports only pci-e v2, that, in theory, may limit gpu productivi...

Re: The GTX 1080 TI pulls 952k PPD!
Depending on the work unit, the 1080ti is either a serious monster, or in a very few rare cases worse than the 1070.
Mostly it's a monster though.

Re: Are there still GPU projects that use FAHcore_18 or _17?
I think I remember seeing an occasional FAHcore 18 unit in the last month, but they seem to be very uncommon or getting saved for 32 bit clients. I'm pretty sure that 17 was ANNOUNCED as being dead a while back. AMD seems to have ended support for 32 bit LINUX with the AMDGPU driver move - so nothin...

Re: Failed to get assignment - No WUs available
It would be nice if they would fix the code that REPEATEDLY CAUSES THIS ISSUE. This is very very far from the first time this SAME ISSUE has happened because the assignment server and the work servers don't communicate CORRECT information on WU availability to each other. It's starting to tick me of...

Re: 1080ti Low Perfrmance?
10496 I'm seeing a little under 1M PPD - 10490 as I recall has similar performance - on my Gigabyte 1080ti. Also, there are a lot of factors that can affect PPD: The MODEL of the card makes a big difference (an Aorus boosts a LOT higher than any FE due to the massive cooling upgrade) If you overcloc...
