Re: Windows or Linux?

1080s don't use more than around 180 watts at load, according to techpowerup (not the TDP value, mind you). Either way, each quad card system is powered by a decent 1600 watt PSU, and the motherboard has two molex connectors on the board to power the PCI-e slots. Server grade X99s. Anyway, I followe...

Re: Windows or Linux?

Yep, no point overclocking an idle system! No idea why there are CPU work units. My guess is that they were assigned because the GPUs weren't properly detected. I'll try the beta software now and get back to you shortly with an update. Pause all 4 slots, go into slot 0's config and edit the cuda, gp...

Re: Windows or Linux?

I'm going to need instructions designed for a Windows idiot. I have no idea what a xorg is or where to find it. also, I've seen that coolbits config come up before, but with a value of 4. How many different values are there, and what do they all represent? Here's the log. You can see where it shows ...

Re: Windows or Linux?

Okay, Mint is running on one of my rigs, but it looks like there's a lot of work to do. CPU slot works fine. GPU slots do not. They were not automatically detected, so I added them manually. Slot assignment couldn't even be done using the -1 setting, so I had to manually assign each GPU slot at 0, 1...

Re: Windows or Linux?

@CG: That's one of the reasons I brought up this question again. I've got two systems running 4 GTX 1080s each. I would like to make the switch to Linux, but some uncertainties are stopping me. -How is the driver support for video cards? -How are errors handled? For example, fahcore crashes in Windo...

Windows or Linux?

I know there's bound to be at least a few people that will roll their eyes over this overly asked topic. However, I've only seen answers that are a few years old. Considering that hardware and software changes a lot, I'm going to ask this question again. As far as PPD and overall progress of the pro...

Re: Solutions to crashes on remote systems?

Oh, right, I forgot to update this. The majority of the issues were caused by what I believe to be a faulty USB wireless device that I have been using on one of my rigs, as I had no ethernet cables to spare. After wiring it up directly to the router, almost all of the problems went away. I still hav...

Re: Solutions to crashes on remote systems?

At the moment, I am running all video cards at 85% power though my overclocking software, to maintain temperatures of 75 degrees. Both systems, which have 4 1080s each, run on 1500 watt units. Neither heat not power should be an issue. Still, it would be all well and good to just restart the compute...

Solutions to crashes on remote systems?

I'm away from home for up to 8 days at a time, during which, my folding rigs turn my bedroom into a smelting furnace. This is generally not an issue. However, I have two problems that occasionally crop up that are rather annoying. Problem 1: While stable, we all get the occasional FAHCore crash. I'v...

Re: PCI-e bandwidth/capacity limitations

This thread should be more than enough motivation for devs to come up with a F@H equivalent of BOINCs WUProp!

Re: Would this setup be a problem?

Pretty much why TV is better for my purposes. Initially, I plan on only running my folding systems while I'm home, but after everything runs without a problem for about a month or so, I'll switch to 24/7 operations. As I'm out of the country for 2/3rds of the month, remoting in to check on both F@H,...

Re: Would this setup be a problem?

I had hoped for that. If it's serious enough later on, then I'll look into it further. Thanks

Would this setup be a problem?

After getting my multi GPU systems set up, I began to run them without any monitor, mouse or keyboard, choosing to access each system remotely from my third system via Teamviewer. Before going (almost) headless, if I were to remote in, the desktop I'd see would be at the intended resolution of the m...

Re: PCI-e bandwidth/capacity limitations

Okay, sorry for the delay. Video cards were held at customs, because it looked rather suspicious that someone tried to take 10 cards from the US to Dubai in a cabin bag. Anyway... First system is up and running, and the second is currently in the process of having everything installed. I can finally...

Re: PCI-e bandwidth/capacity limitations

I decided to go for a pair of headless octa-core x99 systems with 4 1080s each, plus another system with one 1080 that would be for personal use. They should be able to handle whatever I throw at them. At some point, I'll see if I can get some flexible risers and test a board at its maximum capacity...
