Re: Suggested Change to the PPD System

7im you could is you were able to look it up. I only support ongoing normalization if it is logged and I'm able to look it up. It does not matter on which interval this is done, yearly or monthly, as long as I'm capable of calculating the results I would have gotten without the normalisation. Explai...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

Can we please focus on normalisation first? If we can sort out the underlying issue of exponential PPD growth due to continuing improvement of computers THEN we can address the QRB, as my following post will outline. Most of my posts are about normalisation not qrb. I've given examples for both alr...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

... Just curious but where would the incentive be for people to buy the machinery and to run the bigadv WU's if it were normalised across the board. The purpose of the QRB was to encourage quick returns. Guess what it works just look at all the 4P out there right now and there are quite a few being...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

You don't need to convince me that factorising ppd/credit is something which is nice to look at. I agree with your above two posts, and had already given a method of avoiding it while still retaining a tie to scientific throughput which is important to me. Let's continue with methods of avoiding it,...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

I'm not militiant but I find those 'nitpicking' details pretty important to the big picture. You're the one who's becoming militant here and I would like you to stop that and start answering the questions if you're looking for constructive feedback. Not giving answers as you would rather keep in dis...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

Conceptually the hockey stick problem lies in two sections here, one: the exponential increase in computing capability, two: the QRB providing steep increases in credit assigned to machines which due to being much faster then other machines also assigned the same projects. The first concept is somet...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

ChasR, so what if there's the incentive to go big on core's? Aren't there enough people who will not be able to do so and would just have to accept donating what they can? What you're saying is that no charity should ever except donations over 5 dollars, as that would be the average most could affor...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

Jesse said this: I'm all for PPD being normalized across the board. There are some projects that I hate getting because my PPD drops. If we had to apply your proposal, then I would choose a mean PPD standardization scheme over the median. I think over time the adjustment would be smoother and not so...

I edited the post above yours with a counter proposal which does just what you are asking.

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheat_and_chessboard_problem is basically what folding is up against. That's clearly true and not being disputed. I'm just saying that it's not that big of a problem if you're willing to implement a factorized ppd output and credit count. Edit: As to not only have criti...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

Since when do project have to be equal in point value? Different project use different simulations, they can't all be valued the same. So no I can't agree with having one point curve. And the ppd of a project can and should change if the hardware running it is getting quicker, the whole nature of po...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

You asked for hard figures.... Here is a graph I prepared earlier. The below is real world data for Project 8004, using the ppd calculator. If computers increase in performance every 18 months, then every 18 months we should move half the distance along the X axis toward the Y axis. Because of the ...

Re: PPD Bonus Scheme

As I see it, the main issue with the PPD system is that we are fast approaching the curve often known as the hockey-stick end, where small improvements in speed result in massive PPD increases. We were, in fact, heading towards that hockey-stick curve long before the Bonus Points system came into e...
