Visualization is not connecting

Post by richardcoa »

Hello,

excuse my English.

Folding works fine on my PC. Web control is working, the advanced control too.
Only the viewer, the visualization is not working, I guess it is unable to connect properly.
It says connextion "trying" and protein "demo"
At the top of the window there is nothing after project, core e. g.

Reinstalling did not help.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thank you very much.

I don't think there's anything you can do about it at the present time. You're describing Viewer bugs that have been reported but not yet fixed.

The basic problem is that various FAHCores write the viewer data in at least two different places, so a Viewer either works for GPU data or for CPU data, but not both. Some people have worked around this problem by copying the data from one place to another or by replacing the latest version of the Viewer with the previous version (depending on whether they want to visualize GPU data or CPU data).

I expect that Development will eventually standardize all active FAHCores with the latest version of the Viewer, but I don't expect that to be soon.

I have no problems using FAHViewer with most Core_A7 WU's on my Mac's at home with the 7.5.1 version of the client. That version will not show Core_A4 WU's. 7.4.4 would show A4 WU's, but that capability was removed during the various bet versions released in between.

My CPU slots are remote clients ... FAHViewer can't access them ...

And local client is GPU only ... (I have remote clients too with GPU only)

So, it never works for me ... :D

I started folding 4 months ago and have never been able to get the viewer to work with my RTX 2070 on Windows. Just figured it was broken. Is it supposed to work? Always says "Connection: Trying" and "Protein: Demo".

This is a bug in V7.5.1 on Windows. (I'm not sure about Linux or MacOS-X)

I've opened a ticket on it: https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-issues/issues/1283

Any projected date for a new client / beta testing new client? Was reading that ticket and it seems like they were aiming for a new client soon(ish).

FAH will not report a date for a new client. They've always taken the approach that dates are set by the product's Sales Department (which FAH doesn't have) and it just encourages the release of an poorly tested version before it's ready to be released. The first announcement is typically either
* A new version of FAH is available for beta test
or
* A version of FAH was released today.

Everyone, I feel like we have been knocking on the wrong door here for this issue... Has anybody bothered asking the software developer responsible for the actual coding of both the client AND the visualizer for help? Click the about button in the advanced client and you'll notice that the F@H team runs and manages the system we know and love, however. It is infact an entirely different company that created the client and the visualizer. Joseph Coffland is in the credits of the current client, he works for a company called Cauldron Development LLC. Cauldron Development LLC is a software engineering company that tackles software projects ranging from embedded systems and robotics to programming language design and simulations. If you REALLY want the visualizer to really get OFFICIALLY fixed, its time to redirect your requests and efforts there. The squeaky wheel gets the grease gentlemen.

Try, but unlikely to work. He would be part of the change management behind the scene. Addressing issues here is a good door to knock on. You Might find also a bug list on github, but then again change management kicks in. And adding a good portion of Zen meditation too.
