Client on Windows will not download or start to Fold [Solved

Hi there,

I installed the Client on Win10Pro. All fine. Joined a team.

But the Client shows CPU status Ready, gpu Status Ready. Work Queue still shows 0.0 % on both Queues.

In Windows Firewall I activated all *.exe, in Fritzbox I gave access to the both IP-Adresses from log. In Pi-Hole there was one blocked entry, for cds.j3z9t3p6.hwcdn.net. I have whitelisted the domain hwcdn.net.

In the log one url was listed, assign1.foldingathome.org. I have whitelisted the domain foldingathome.org

But the client still stand. In the log there ist machine-id v="0".

The extra logging verbosity doesn't actually help in this situation, but most of what I can see is that your system is not getting an assignment ID on its first connection with the servers. Not familiar with the two boxes, but one or the other may be blocking the type of request being sent.

As another person posting here a few days ago determined, a HTTP request on a "raw" IP would be blocked by his device. The workaround he posted was a script to periodically ping the various servers by their hostnames, and the cached DNS info that IP "x" was associated with hostname "y" was enough to let the HTTP requests go through

The servers seem to be getting hammered lately with the surge of new clients due to COVID-19. Maybe it's just more than they can handle? Or server maintenance/upgrades?

That could be a case for some Work Servers. However, in this case, the client was requesting an assignment ID, the unique identifier for each system (and the slot if they are multiple slots in one system). The allocation of assignment ID is handled by the Assignment Server and they have more than enough grunt to handle this.
