Centos7 F@h installation fails

by MrWaffelXD
Hey there,

I struggle with the installation of F@h on my Centos 7 Terminal Server. I tried to install everything a couple of times.

I already updated my system and did everything as written in the installation-guide (Im a new user so im not allowed to post urls. Just google: fold @ home centos terminal it should be the first result).

If I run
sudo rpm -e --justdb FAHControl

All I get is an error:

Error: The package FAHControl is not installed

By executing the installation commands:

sudo rpm -i --nodeps fahclient-7.4.4-1.x86_64.rpm

sudo rpm -i --nodeps fahcontrol-7.4.4-1.noarch.rpm

sudo rpm -i --nodeps fahviewer-7.4.4-1.x86_64.rpm

I got the result (today I didnt removed the old installation this time):

The package fahcontrol-7.4.4.1.x86_64 is already installed.

My FAHClient is running.

Have a nice day,
Jonas

I don't see anything unusual with the install, other than the exit at the end. Are you closing the autostartup of the FAHClient, or are you starting it manually?

The installation guide has not been update to reflect the current v7.5.1 client, you may want to use that, download from - https://foldingathome.org/alternative-downloads/.

Due to dependencies FAHcontrol still may not install, it was last updated 2 years ago and newer versions of Linux may need workarounds or additional installs for it to work.

Finally, the client is only shown running for a short time, perhaps not long enough to get an assignment. The servers are getting more requests than they can fill, so it may take a while at times - viewtopic.php?f=16&t=33193.

Centos 7 Terminal Server
You mean a headless server? FAHControl and FAHViewer (EDIT: corrected, previously I made a mistake and wrote "FAHClient") are graphical (GUI) applications, so don't install them on the server.

FAHClient can be controlled from the command line, by typing:

Code: Select all

telnet localhost 36330
- write "help" to get a list of commands. Logs can be found in /var/lib/fahclient.

You can also install FAHControl on another computer and setup FAHClient to allow remote control (with password authorization).

EDIT: FAHClient is the main program, that does the work of folding proteins. FAHControl is the GUI application to control it..

Please note that while FAHControl is a GUI application, FAHClient is not.

Might be thinking of FAHViewer which is a graphical application.

Yup, corrected above. Thanks for spotting it.

Hey,
thank you all very much for replys.
Somehow I don't got notified as you answered. I'm so sorry about that!

Somehow I was able to start folding by using:

Code: Select all

FAHClient --user=USERNAME --team=260329 --passkey=PASSKEY --gpu=false --smp=true
I'm unsure why its working now. Maybe the client wasn't running the last times.

Have a nice day and stay well!
