Be very careful who you purchase from via Amazon, some of the marketplace vendors are seemingly selling old modified cards as current 'new' ones.

Amazon isn't that bad. eBay is worse. Just buy from within USA, and look at the cooling solution. If it looks different than from the manufacturer websites don't buy.
Also don't buy from other than well established manufacturers, like gigabyte, Asus, EVGA, msi, zotac, powercolor, or a few more.

Amazon themselves are okay most of the time, marketplace is not controlled or monitored very well though so you can be ripped off if not careful. eBay is no different but there are both trustworthy and dodgy vendors and purchasers there too. An online gaming team mate of mine attempted to sell his GTX980 ti GPU via eBay a couple of years ago, the person he sold it to made a false claim that he sent them an actual brick instead. eBay upheld the ridiculous claim, so the paid money had to be refunded and he was without both the card he sold and the money he should have had for it towards his new one. He had recorded footage of card working in a machine, and being boxed up for shipping but eBay wouldn't that as proof.

Thanks, yeah I'm currently looking at either an GTX 1650 Super, RX 5500 XT or an RX 580.

I spent some time looking at low profile cards. The last ones were the GTX 1050.
Anything beyond that is at least 1,5 slot, mostly 2 or 2,5 slot; and some even 3 slot.

Perhaps there are some quadro GPUs that are single slot, that are any faster than a GTX 1050.
If you even have a dual slot design, Asus makes an RTX2070 blower style GPU, which fits in a 2 slot design, and exhausts the hot air out of the case; and may be your best bet in a cramped case.
