Is it possible to disable logging? I want to run start and stop FAH on Windows through the command line but stopping is impossible due to the log file always being locked, e.g.:
22:25:38:ERROR:Exception: Failed to rename 'log.txt' to 'logs\log-20200918-222538.txt': The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
I always end up having to kill the process instead.

Can you please post more of the log file around that error message? AFAIK, you can manually start and stop FAHClient assuming you know what you're doing since this is an expert feature. Our recommendation is to use the default settings and use the provided shortcuts to start/exit the client.

Re: config.xml overwritten. We're looking for a way to preserve the settings. based on the device specifications the goal is to set the power level. For example, laptops with their limited cooling abilities would be set to light, while desktop with GPUs would be set to full. However, these values seem to be overwritten every time the application starts and the values erased.

Re: disable logging?
Simple answer: Don't try to stop FAHClient. It's essentially a daemon which does nothing unless you tell it you want it do do something. Simply PAUSE the active WUs and all processing will cease. You can unpause it when it time to go back to work. A script can send those commands through the telnet interface on port 36330.

Looking over your log, you have the client running in a non-default location from your "Downloads" directory. That could be part of the problem you are having with the log not being saved when going to a new one. The client needs R/W permissions and the ability to create subdirectories.
The default install will create the directory to run the client under %AppData% and setups up a shortcut that will use that as the CWD: Normally that should be used.
You mentioned wanting to install on a large group of computers There are several topics from late March through April that a number of people contributed to wanting to do the same. One that I can find fairly quickly since I posted there is this - viewtopic.php?f=106&t=33127. Perhaps between that and other similar topics you can get some useful pointers towards deploying and controlling the client on multiple systems.
