PPD started at around 45000 but is now around 22000, likely due to the passive only cooling for the Air. A MacBook Pro or mac Mini will likely have better sustained PPD.
If you are not using the M1 on your lap, maybe you should check the LTT video detailing the positioning of an extra heatpad in order to use the lower back panel of the M1 as another heatsink.

I keep my laptops on top of a cookie rack to keep the bottom heat sink cooler plus use Macs Fan Control app or SMP Fan Control app to regulate the laptop's temp to no higher than 150 degrees F via the RPM adjustment option. I have a 2011 MBP ID=3,1 that has been Folding 24/7 with no problems. :)

Now working on second WU. Temp got up to 195 degrees F so increased fan RPM to 4000 to get back to 150 degrees F. PPD for second WU is 61,928. TPF is 3 min22sec. Running at Full Folding Power.

This is the video I was talking about. With the mod, the M1 Air beats even the M1 Pro... :eo

From earlier reports, you may actually get better throughput of WUs by using Light and only using 4 of the 8 CPU cores. The low power cores run slower and the process threads run on the faster cores have to wait on them.

Joe_H, Could you please check to see if I am getting credit for my M1 completed WUs. I do not see any reported credit in my Log file like I see for my other Macs ? Currently running - 15:48:51:WU00:FS00:0xa8:Project: 16815 (Run 3, Clone 60, Gen 39) Here is the latest Log file -

From the app provided, https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu#proje ... 14&gen=186, the previous WU was credited. That app and some other useful ones are available at https://apps.foldingathome.org/.

Got my third WU - a COVID 17231 (815, 2 78). PPD is up to 85,040. I am going to Fold for a few more days then drop the CPU count from 8 down to 4 and Light power to see if the PPD count changes per Joe_H's recommendation. Temps is 135 degrees F with 4,000 RPM. I have WU set to select Any.

Does HFM.NET work on the M1s OS? If it does, you could use it to monitor your WUs more easily, and draw the correct conclusions.

Last I checked HFM.net works on a Windows machine, and fairly well in a Windows emulator like Wine when people want to et it up on a Linux box. Once setup on a Windows environment, it can be setup to monitor F@h clients not running Windows such as for the macOS used on the Apple M1 Mac's.

As for differences between running on all cores and just the 4 high power cores, it may be more visible when running Core_A7 projects than with Core_A8. The two cores are based on different versions of Gromacs, and have different options set for inter thread communication and synchronization.

I believe the "Project Contributors: search may have been disabled. It takes a long search through the database to find which persons contributed to a specific project, and they were having some performance issues with the database.
