Fahcore 22 is not installing

Post by Sandal »

I installed the client in Win10 and was able to process CPU tasks. However the GPU stays on "update_core" status, because it is not correctly transferred or installed. After the error the download starts over. I am able to manually download that file, but don't know what to do with it. The log says:

Welcome to the folding at home support forum Sandal.

This sounds like a permission problem ... did you use the default install locations?

We would need to see the System Info & Configuration sections of your log.

Thanks for taking the time. I installed everything in the default folders. The only thing I changed during installation was that I want to manually start the client. I also already tried turning off the Windows Defender temporarily. Here is my info from the logs:

Are you using any AV/Firewall other than defender ... I ask as one well known one has been causing a few issues recently by "inspecting" the traffic even when turned off ... It does look like something is either stopping the downloaded core being written (permissions) or interfering with it (av/firewall/router/even isp) in some way that means the client isn't accepting it ... that is quite a slow download so I am wondering if the later might be true ... you aren't behind a corporate firewall or anything?

No, I am using the default Windows Defender and Firewall. No extra installations. The PC is at home directly connected to the router (1GBit download). I was also wondering about the slow download. It barely reaches 100kB/s. I just tried it from a server at another location and it's fast there.

Ok, I found it (somewhat): I started a VPN client and now the download was much faster and it completed. This is very strange... I guess I will have to look somewhere else. Thanks for your time!

When a download grinds to a halt like that you might be suffering from a stateful inspection firewall or perhaps even misconfigured traffic shaping algorithm going nuts and introducing packet errors. A telltale symptom of the latter was when a download was faster over 10 mbit link than over a 1000 mbit connection to the same router.

The simplest explanation is that FAH is a scientific research tool and it's not going to work if you don't have a connection to an ISP that's going to download files accurately or a computer that produces accurate/stable results We're happy to try to help you create that environment but it's mostly guesswork on our part.
