Out of memory error

Post by takeabyte »

I've been running the VMware player fold@home config for i7 processors so I can use all 8 cores. It has been running swimmingly for about a month now, but lately i'm getting the following error:

Out of memory: kill process 1099 (mpiexec) score 50663 or a child
Killed process 1100 (FahCore_a2.exe)

Any ideas?

There have been some reports of WUs that seem to want somewhat more than that. Additional memory for a virtual machine is inexpensive, especially if you don't use it, ;) and very valuable if you do use it.

8 fahcores each taking up about 160 MB, totalling 960 MB. Any small spike, and your OS runs out of memory.

In the past, it was recommended to have 200 MB per fahcore in the standard SMP client. That number may have grown. And -bigadv EL WUs in SMP are recommended at 1 GB per core, but I think people are squeezing by with ~512 MB per core, with the current projects. That may change as well. ;)

I'm back in business. I just doubled the memory, so it's at 2048 mb now. If it gets to the point where it'll need around 4gb, well i'll just have a great excuse to get an upgrade xD thanks for all your help :-)
