I changed the CPU in my #3 system, from a 4200+ to a 4600+, AMD Athlon 64 X2. Here is the new performance data.

  1. Added new Linux/Wine/GPU3 folding systems #8, #9, and #10.
  2. There are still some problems with the http://assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080/ AS and/or its collection of WSs. Most GPUs are getting WUs OK, but a few are not.
  3. Created a more condensed format, due to the larger number of systems.

Database Update:
- Several tens of records added over the time of a few weeks.
- If you were seeing a fatal error message on the "Known Database Errors" page, that should now be gone.

Also, apologies for the lack of updates and actual development. College and other things have taken up most of my time to develop, and of the free time I have I'm usually spending reading and learning things relative to what I'm learning in college (software engineering). I try to add the pending records to the database within a few days of receiving them. So in summary, I have not abandoned development/maintenance of the database, I simply (temporarily) have some time constraints.

Hey, dude, no sweat, there was absolutely no criticism, either intended or implied! :D

This database sure steered me in the right direction, for my GPU purchasing decisions in the last 4-5 weeks. If anyone had said, even 1 month ago, that I would have eight GTX 660 Ti OC GPUs running FAH, I would have declared them to be, well... as crazy as me! :shock:

The discussion that started here, with the decision occurring here, sure have changed my folding world, and all for the better. :D

I was even thinking about PMing you, to ask if continuing to flood this thread with data was getting to be a bit too much. After all, how many times does the database need to see that a GTX 660 Ti OC has a 2:06 TPF and an Estimated 26564.57 PPD on a P807x WU?

Just let me know, because it's probably better to post data here only when a significant change has occurred.

For now, it would be best to only post when a significant change has occurred (e.g. clock change, core change, core version change, new project, driver change). Eventually I would like to create a script that looks at the records in the database and tells me if there are duplicates (as in same info source, project, clock speed, driver version, core, and core version) and average them to create a single record.

Eventually the database will need to be completely redesigned as I created it without any prior database "knowledge". A DBA from anywhere would probably throw up if they saw the current state of the DB. The class I'm taking now is called "Database Design and SQL" and it has taught me a lot! Of course, when the redesign occurs, it will be a very seamless transition for the users of the database viewing page and no one will even notice a difference (except maybe faster page load-time ;))

At first, they were smp:2 folding only, but after I found out how really easy it is to do GPU folding (thanks, Hyperlife!) with Linux/Wine/GPU3 and the re-released v6.41 console client (thanks, PG/Stanford!), well, as they say, the little snowball started rolling down the steep, snow-covered mountain ...

PS: The single-core CPUs in the last 3 systems are too feeble to do anything but feed the GPUs. In fact, the #13 system originally had two GTX 260s, but the CPU was too feeble to feed them both. The #13 system got 4812 PPD with two GTX 260s, but it gets 7925 PPD with one GTX 260.

PPS: Not bad, 89176 PPD from a bunch of obsolete (except for the GTX 460s) old 'junk' computers! :D

  1. Added new Linux/Wine/GPU3 folding systems #14 and #15.
    OK, I have finally run out of old/spare parts/extra PSUs lying around here, so these will be the last systems added to my folding farm, at least for awhile. I really mean it this time. No fooling. Honest.
  2. There are among the first few 764x SMP WUs that I have seen here.
  3. There are the first 7660 GPU WUs that I have seen here.
  4. There are the first 576x GPU WUs that I have seen here.
  5. The very welcome return of the 762x GPU WUs.

I have just tested if a modern Kepler GPU (one of my Gigabyte GV-N66TOC-2GD GTX 660 Ti GPUs) would work with Linux/Wine/GPU3 folding, as the GTX 460 Fermi GPUs (Zotac ZT-40401-10P GTX 460 GPUs) have already been proven to work.

I am pleased to announce that this combination (a modern Kepler GPU with Linux/Wine/GPU3 folding) does work, here is the data from that test:
  • I chose my #9 system for this test, as it had a PSU that could handle the GTX 660 Ti OC GPU. The #9 system's performance was documented in a previous test here:
    My #9 system, AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz CPU, EVGA GTX 285 GPU:
    • smp:2 - PRCG 10450 (188, 0, 15), 0xa4, 3000MHz, 30C, TPF 18:24, 787.74 PPD
    • gpu0 - PRCG 10501 (283, 0, 161), 0x11, 648MHz, 60C, TPF 0:57, 8897.68 PPD
    • Total for this system is 9685 PPD.
  • Here are the results of today's test:

These are pretty impressive results, my #1 system is currently folding PRCG 8070 (92, 1, 1), and with its 3.4GHz quad-core CPU, the TPF is only 1 second faster, at 2:12.

I have had to cancel my order for the six Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 OC GPUs. My supplier missed the promised "1-2 days" delivery time, and could not estimate delivery even now. I have changed the order to six of the PNY GeForce GTX 650 Ti 928MHZ 1GB 5.4GHz GDDR5 GPUs, which they absolutely promise are "in stock". I have also ordered one of the Gigabyte GV-N680OC-2GD GeForce GTX 680 2GB Video Cards, to go into my #1 system (the GTX 660 Ti OC will be moved to another system).

So, barring any further changes, the "final" configuration here will be 22 GPUs in 18 computers (4 are dual-GPU systems):
  • 1 - GTX 680 OC (Gigabyte GV-N680OC-2GD)
  • 11 - GTX 660 Ti OC (Gigabyte GV-N66TOC-2GD)
  • 6 - GTX 650 Ti (PNY VCGGTX650T1XPB)
  • 2 - GTX 650 OC (MSI N650-MD1GD5/OC)
  • 2 - GTX 460 (Zotac ZT-40401-10P)
When everything is up and running, I will post one "final" set of readings here.
