Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew what the speed of a home computer is (in GFLOPS)?
The "average" person who merely surfs, types, and emails, the average gamer, and then the average Computer Geek would probably have significantly different answers... does anyone know?

Don't know much about your stereotypes, but let's focus on one of the ones that really matters ^^

An average windows folder does about (178*1024)/187550=0.97 GFLOPS

It's all relative, really. The benchmark I used is a very old program... Folding@Home is more complex.

You asking a question that no one knows. Some people are still using some very old slow computers, who can't afford to buy a newer computer, then the middle ground with still a large range of computer speeds, and to the other high end, the gaming enthusiasts who are upgrading constantly with faster CPUs and GPUs.

Then add the people that i know who are retired, do nothing but surf and use office. They all have quad cores, lol. Talk about overkill.

Dont know what a quad generates, but for what they do, they dont need the spec they have.

My Mac G5 QUAD gets 34.062 Giga Flops when tested with Power Fractal V1.4.1 available here:

My 24" iMac Intel 2.8 GHz C2D Extreme gets 17.345 Giga Flops
But the real F@H yardstick is the average PPD we get.
My G5 only gets 155 PPD while my iMac gets 1661 PPD.

That elicits a related question -- approximately how many FLOPS in a F@H point?

There isn't any real answer to that question, (even with the "approximately" in there) for several reasons.
1) The PS3 and GPU clients have very high FLOP numbers, compared to the points, because the types of analysis they can do is rather limited.
2) The uniprocessor client and the SMP client are able to do a much wider group of analysis methods, so one FLOP is worth more.
3) The high-performance clients get higher points compared to their FLOPS because they return the results more promptly. (e.g.- On a quad-processor, four uniprocessor clients use slightly more FLOPS than a single SMP client, but the SMP client earns quite a few more points.

Are we available to count FLOP after per thousand PPD? Or can we just guess?

Update:
Just got a Mac Pro Dual Quad 3.2 GHZ with 16 Gigs of RAM.
I am processing 2 _a2.exe WUs getting 4218 times 2 PPD = 8436 PPD from the Mac Pro.
FYI - my PowerFractal test results are now 81 GFLOPS.
I am using smcFanControl with the RPM increased to 1100 and the temp decreased from 178 degrees F to 145 degrees F.
