FAH on a Server.

Post by Spud1200 »

What would be the best type of Server to Fold on. Since I don't have the funds to buy an i7 I'm curious about fah on rack and blade servers within a multiple (as yet undecided) U environment. I'm seriously thinking of buying a server for folding and if possible run the simulations over the multiple individual servers. I don't know if its possible. Would any of this be possible.

Folding on a server is possible, many people did during the now defunct bigadv program. Electric costs and noise can be higher and unless you buy the most modern hardware output can be no better than a single i7

These days you are better off with a gpu, either in your existing system or in a cheap build, my servers can each put out 200k ppd, my new 970 will push at least 250k.

You won't be able to run one simulation on more than one server, if you have say 3 servers - you will run 3 different wu at the same time
