Post by silverpulser »

My GPU using one core is working OK but my other CPU shows Ready but no work unit is being downloaded. The log file shows:

With CPU:1 you have a high chance of low/no supply of WU. There is not much you can do. If you want to avoid the warning message you can pause or remove the CPU slot.

OK, thanks for the info. I tried installing FAH on my Core 2 duo laptop with the same result. presumably that is for the same reason then?

It is not just CPU1, my CPU3 instance is held up since early this morning, both 171.67.108.200 and .208 are empty?

Is there a setting we can use to get better availability?

Is there more work for higher core count clients?

thanks,
Roger

I've got a 6 core cpu and getting a similar problem;

Failed to get assignment from '171.67.108.200:8080':Empty work server assignment
Failed to get assignment from '171.67.108.204:80': Empty work server assignment

Empty Work Sever Assignment

Post by Choco31415 »

Hi! I have encountered an error running Folding@Home after starting it up from a few months of dormancy. Basically, I'm not getting any work assignments. Here are two screenshots showing what is happening:

ImageImage

My internet is working, and Folding@Home used to work earlier.

I am using a 2012 Macbook Air running OS X 10.11.1. I have reinstalled Folding@Home about 10 minutes ago.

Any idea on what is happening? Thank you for any thoughts! I am willing to share more information if it is helpful.

Unfortunately, the management at Pande Group cannot seem to keep enough servers and projects running so that CPU:1 configurations can get work. There are many threads just like this one the last few days where clients that were once working well have stopped contributing to the project. More projects are reportedly on the way, and should be available "soon" but no exact ETA is available.

I could be wrong, but I believe all of the Macbook Air series have dual-core CPUs. Go to the Advanced Control (FAHControl) and in the Config tab, change CPU:-1 (or maybe CPU:1) to CPU:2.

I was hoping to keep it at one core so that I wouldn't put so much CPU load on my computer (alongside what I do), but I guess I can wiggle it up to two cores without too many downsides. Thank you for the quick feedback 7zim and bruce! I can imagine this forum is getting quite a few posts like mine with the same question.

Yes, considering single core donations has been the bread and butter of folding since it started 15 years ago.

One option if you only want to use the resources of a single core is the NaCl client for Chrome. You can set it to a percentage of total CPU available such as 50% or 25%.

I see the same thing with CPU:7, so it's not just single-core setups not getting work.

However that is being discussed in another topic. Temporary solution to that situation is running at CPU:6.

Shortages of CPU:1 and shortages of CPU:7 are only the same problem if there's a single server that happens to be the only source of those two types of WUs and if that server is off-line.
