Hello
Has anyone here tried running dual GTX 1080's?
If so what PPD does it get?
Also do you run SLI or just run two individual boards?
Thanks

Hi

Running dual 1080's is not a problem - its high end due to the cost of the cards but has been done frequently. you just need plenty of cooling and a decent power supply.
You need to run it as 2 individual cards. PPD is around 800k per cards.

Yep, 4 dual 1080 rigs here and that's correct.
However, power and cooling aren't too onerous - a decent 650 W PSU is probably the minimum and a mid tower case with a couple of quiet intakes and exhaust fans work well enough for me.

Thanks
I've been running a 7770k with a 1080 on an 860watt PS.
With the 10890ti out now the 1080 cards have come down 100+ dollars.
Contemplating adding another card.

You're not the only one, i'm just debating whether to go 1070/1080 or 1080Ti

@Nathan_P: You have limited number of GPU slots and PPD/price/watt scales good with these GPUs.
If you have the money isn't going for the fastest GPU the best option?

It is, but sometimes its the initial hardware outlay that's the issue, not the running costs.

PCIe x16 slots are not a problem, I have 13 available for folding :D

@Hamltnblue: If you also want to game with dual gtx 1080 then you can leave SLI activated. But it is still 2 individual slots in FAH.

1080ti is the king of money/ppd for now

dual 1080ti system (as any dual-gpu) is easy to build with nonexpensive "mainstream" psu+cpu+board platform with no ppd lost

You will need a decent PSU, even if its only 700-750watts, so that's £80-£90 before you start, a decent mobo with 2 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots running at x8 as a minimum, the bill soon starts adding up

anyway, single "dual-1080ti system" is cheaper, simplier and smaller than two "dual-1070" or single "quarple-1070" or single "triple-1080" while producing similar ppd

same for comparison of "single-1080ti system" with "dual-1070 system"

I'm running three 1080s, a 960 and a 750ti on my folding rig. 1000 watt psu and have about 100 watts headroom.

What MB are you using for that setup?

ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Not sure of my PPD on that rig. That rig and another two 1080s gives me just under 4M daily
